Have lived downtown Norfolk for 8 years…in my opinion it’s not worth it…move to Ghent cheaper and it’s a right around the corner to downtown….if you like getting chased off the sidewalk by lime scooters and the unfortunate uptick in crime downtown is perfect

Having lived in larger metropolitan cities these things tend to come with city living..I don't know why people complain about crime living "downtown" or in urban areas it just doesn't make sense.

@@lakieabradley5095 i don’t know if your comment was in general or directed at my comment but none the less I agree with your statement to an extent…yes there is some form of understanding you should know when moving to or living in any downtown city area (as I lived in many and currently live in downtown Norfolk) for reference I have lived downtown Norfolk for several years and by any stretch of the imagination I don’t think downtown Norfolk is dangerous or a scary place to live but to my comment the point I was making was the notable uptick in violence(several shootings and murders in. 2 month period) the quality of living downtown (filthy dirty streets and the lack of restaurants/late night food/entertainment (closures for multiple reasons that would be to much to list here)etc in connection to the price you pay to live down here..in my opinion is not worth it when you can live a few blocks/ streets over….but I do agree with you completely.me being apart of the local civic league it does confuse me why they get so made about loud noises and music at 10 on a Friday night…you live downtown

Quick question, the Norfolk Station has a parking lot, do you have to pay for parking or is it free? I’d like to leave my car there for 2-3 days while I go back home to visit on the Amtrak. New to Norfolk subscribed !

@@LivingInCoastalVirginia Yeah, because of real estate interests, not necessarily yours, who want to expand way beyond Hampton Roads to pave over the whole state with subdivisions and big box stores. The magazine is nothing but adds and puff pieces which encourage just that.

@@LivingInCoastalVirginiaYou’d be better off getting his permission. Guy lives in the dead downtown of a formerly great city completely hollowed out by urban renewal. Tragically, you can’t replace 200 year old townhouses, Gilded Age hotels, classic marbled Union Station, 150 year old churches, and Harlem South (which was a truly exciting African American entertainment and cultural district). All that’s gone, buddy. Your city is dead. Even your downtown Apple store and your glistening “McArthur Center” is wiped out!
