Worcester. I went to Classical High in the 60s and my first job was at the Gazette. Downtown was a thriving place with all that great architecture. Urban renewal killed the city's downtown. I loved Ephraim's bookstore and the movie theaters and all those downtown department stores. What a loss.....

65 was a great year too. Downtown was bustling and the hippie thing was taking hold. The kid was at Ephram"s bookstore I think. So much fun going downtown on a Saturday and being young. Thanks for the video.

this is a great video. It reminds me of the trips to Woolworths on Front Street. Back when things seemed more at ease. And, that is before the Worcester Commons aka The Worcester Center. Great days, sorely missed. days and nights when you could walk the streets with no problems. When you would go to Paris Cinema and actually see a real movie. We miss you Worcester!

I remember back then getting on the city bus for 25 cents and going downtown. As a kid back then my parents didn't have to worry about their 10 yr old going downtown. People were friendly back then and crime was non existent during the daytime hours. As Bob Hope would sing "Thanks for the Memories".

Wow, great home movie review of downtown Worcester. The movie ended with the flag - how terrific!

Thanks for the memories of a great home town, an ALL AMERICA CITY. Anyone remember the popcorn man "Mike"? His old truck at the common or at any and all events in the city 1940's and 1950's. Small bag of popcorn 5 cents, larger bag 10 cents, both had lots of butter.

His name was MIKE PAPAZZIAN he passed away in 1963 same year as KENNEDY. Remember the underground toilets and slate trough to pee in at the common. TAMMY HALL barroom on Pleasant st. also had slate trough to pee in right along the customer side of the bar back in the day 40's 50's and early 60's.How about rotisserie chicken at WOOLWORTHS for .35 cents for half a chicken. You could share it with family and at the sit down counter. How about your free TABLE TALK pie on your birthday at WARE PRATTS. Remember the great Xmas decorations and holiday window displays. HOW about the manger of baby JESUS at city hall. Nobody will ever take my memories away.

When I saw Notre same in the background it made me sad knowing its been demolished
@ccbsnyc6 жыл бұрын
Not only was it demolished, but a lot of the features were just thrown in the trash. Paris Cinema is gone too, it died an ugly death.

Believe or not that beautiful Church in the background at 0:33 in now torn down. The iconic Denholm building is destined for the same fate. The people in charge in Worcester have lost their collective minds.

Cities like worc, lowell, lawrence, springfield, holyoke, pittsfield kind of struggle when all the industry leaves. Nice film though.

This is in America isn't it? Not the original Worcester! Do you know who the featured adult and child are?

The last years when downtown Worcester was busy. That Worcester Mall was built and destroyed the rest of downtown, then that mall was killed by Auburn Mall and all of the strip malls. Charging outrageous fees for parking (they still do) didn't help the situation.
