What a great video! Thanks so much for putting it all together. It is a trip down memory lane. Both my husband,Jim, and I graduated from Classical in 1963.

I'm the author of the book The Boy From Worcester. Even though it's about a gang that I was in back in the 60's I was trying to make People understand things were different back then. They raped this city. But these pictures you have here says a lot. Thank you for sharing this.

I'm gonna check out this book. I grew up in Worcester and am fascinated by the history. I'm glad it's at least moving in the other direction with new development downtown, but it will never be the same, and nor should it. No city ever is.

Good luck with it, and perhaps they can shoot it on location in Worcester as many areas haven't changed much since the 60s.

Woolworth's and Loring Studio were on Main Street, not Front Street. I worked at Loring Studio. It was on Main and Walnut.

You missed a couple - Barnards, Filene's, Lerner's, Sherer's, Ullian's. Also I can't remember the name of one store. It' was a store on Main Street. It was right after Grants (on the same side of Main Street) heading toward Lincoln Street. it was a very narrow store but had several floors. I remember my parents taking me to Denhom's to have my Christmas picture taken with Santa. They had an absolutely gorgeous Christmas window display.

I remember growing up there early 50s until I moved out west in 1986. From what I see and hear now I'm glad I left!

Good video, I grew up there and had lots of fun. Downtown was great, remember my mother going downtown on Wednesday night. The stores stayed open late that day. She walked from around Grafton st. area, no issues, never bothered. Good memories and feel lucky I was brought up there. It has served me well in life, no matter where I go. Thanks for the video.

I remember growing up in the 60's & 70's....wow, Worcesters' downtown was always PACKED. We always had something to do. Today? not so much & it's depressing.

Progress isn't always good. Would Paris tear down the Eiffel Tower because it's old? Or London tear down Big Ben, New York the Empire State Building? I realize that not all buildings can be saved, but the city has to recognize the architectural gems within it or it will commit civic suicide.

Between the White Castle in the Mart on main Street. There was a front of a fake ship with the woman on it that I remember from when I was about 5 years old back in the mid-70s we did not see that picture.

I liked the mall. It blocked the view of all the old buildings that were shut down after the industrial revolution.

AND the good question: Why can't Woo go back to its golden époque?! The answer is simple!! We need adult entertainments! Such as gay spas, gay super night clubs! That would attract people from allover the cities around Woo! I remember I used to meet tons of men coming from CT, RI, NH back when I first came to woo and the blue night club was still there!! Now the only gay bar available is MB and it looks like a cemetery! Ugh :(
