Unless I HAVE to match or have to have a separating zipper, I get zippers by the yard in neutral colors and use for everything. So easy to cut to length and add a slide. I prefer to sew in stops by machine or hand too. The metal replacement stops never grab properly for me. I didn't realize I could/should remove excess teeth till I saw you do it in an old video a long time ago. Probably a thing lots of people already knew but I didn't so it seemed like genius 😂.

Bag making mostly, the odd alteration or repair to my own clothing and cycling gear, I've replaced zippers in several jackets, bicycle panniers; jacket zippers I had to cut the top to 'save' the bottoms. On bags I usually cut both ends, sew on fabric stops, then sew the assembly into the bag. A great deal of information on zippers, as always a very useful and informative video. Thanks, YVR

Interesting info. I shorten at the bottom. I zigzag across the coils then cut off the excess length. Only way I learned. I like knowing metal stoppers are available. Will have to try that way. Thanks for your videos.

Yes! I forgot to mention this one. The zigzag was the first way I learned too. I don’t use it nowadays because I mostly sew with industrial machines. Thanks for sharing! 🥰

Thank you for the video! I actually know most of these techniques the only one I didn't think of was with the coil and a chain stitch! 🤦🏻♀️ I didn't even think of just undo the stitch! 😂 That though never cross my mind 😅 All of these options are really good 👍🏻 but you didn't explain how to do it if in our country doesn't sell the accessories or stoppers 🤷🏻♀️ so maybe a part 2 explaining how to do it specially on the top part? like on a jacket or a dress, because you already explained very well various techniques for the bottom, that would be my only request 😅 Again, thank you so much for this video!!! ❤❤❤❤

I save any pieces over 4 inches long to use for shorter zippers. Yesterday I needed a 38 inch zipper for a coat so I had to shorten a 48 inch. I can save it to use in a half zip sweatshirt. All I need to do is throw a slide and a bottom stop on it when the time comes

Im self taught but came up with most of my techniques are the 10-year-old trying to dress my cats cute 😮 I always made my own stoppers by sewing thread around the bottom but this is like way more professional

Thank you for this treasury of zipper replacement information. I can tell you've dealt with many, many different kinds of zippers with your tailor shop. What is the most difficult kind of zipper that you've had to replace? I have lots of zippers. Some I bought, but most were given to me.
