I finally upgraded the camera boom in the workshop to this parallelogram style that can reach further and operates much smoother.

Nice build. Not into filming, so don't need a boom, but nice to watch different ideas and techniques. As to the Magnifier / Lamp... I have one permanently set up for the same reason. Have you noticed Kuffy wares gloves very often. I don't know if this is to avoid splinters or he just has delicate hands.. Just kidding Kuffy.

yeah it works great John, and because the tension at the joints is spread over 4 points of contact rather than one with my old boom they dont need to be cranked down too hard making it smoother

Mate time & time again you prove why you’re Australia’s number 1 KZbin Maker of informative how to videos & I see some clowns from overseas hitting big subscriber numbers on a video when they nearly cut there fingers off on a Tablesaw 😱 that’s just ridiculous but I’m backing you all the way. Keep on creating Gold standard woodworking & if size matters you’ve smashed the box office down 🧐🤠🇦🇺👍

Up to the standard as always. I made a jib mounted on an industrial lighting stand. It allows me to set up anywhere as I don't have a dedicated space and although I can make it work for me I was trying to be clever and built in a design flaw. I must get round to showing what I did and why it is wrong. I'm pleased you were able to demonstrate that splinters would be in your hand, TBH, that's as far as my speculation wanted to go.

Nice victor, very simple design but very useful. I had though about making something on the ceiling but because of my lights I’ve put it off, as moving my tripod back and forward is a bit of a pain with the space I have, so might get around to making something similar on my ceiling, I’ve already got the parallelogram arm on my tripod so I just need to makeup the bracket and fixture for it on my ceiling. But I like how you’ve got yours on the beam that’s holding your house lol. Good video brother.

Thanks very much Darren. i'm very lucky to have those RSJs in the workshop, they're perfect for this. I hear you brother, it is a pain moving a tripod around particularly in a small shop

theres a fair few of these designs now that Ive looked around, and the absolutely garbage lamp i got from the hardware shop for parts will go nicely into your preferred design... Long enough, and spring loaded for that length... good job also, that gantry you've made is gold...

Simple and effective. John Heisz Matthias Wandel and lots of others have made sanders etc. but YOURS is the quietest. Your motors are fantastic. The camera booms they have made aren't any more effective and usually shorter. Great work.

Thanks very much. my intention was to use lock nuts but in the video i used standard nuts because thats all i had at the time . i just thought i would replace them later but after using the boom for a few months now i have found that the nuts dont loosen over time at all

Very Nice build. How do you make belts from those belt rolls at 3:50? That would be a great followup for the belt grinder vid. Any tips on them would be really welcome!
@DownUnderWoodWorks
@DownUnderWoodWorks Жыл бұрын
Thank you Catilane. Actually that scene in the video is a little deceiving ( i noticed it when i watched it back). those rolls of sandpaper are for my large drum sander, i need to find a spot to store them. i bought the belts for the grinder off ebay i think.

Nice one. Surprised there weren't any washers in between the plates and arms.
@DownUnderWoodWorks
@DownUnderWoodWorks Жыл бұрын
Thanks Drew. I’m relying on the friction between the parts to stop the boom arm dropping when extended out. I think washers would have meant the bolts would need to be overtightened
@vezpolo
@vezpolo 4 ай бұрын
How much weight would you guess that can hold fully extended. I have a microphone that weights about 2 pounds. Will that hold, and still be adjustable ?
@DownUnderWoodWorks
@DownUnderWoodWorks 4 ай бұрын
i only use it for my iPhone so can't really say how much it will hold. i adjust the boom by tightening the nuts at the joints whenever it needs it. The mechanism is very rudimentary. There are a few videos on YT showing some great camera boom builds.
