Hi, I had something similar on an old wood work site many moons ago before YT and was criticised for using, like you did, MDF as the board as they said it would encourage the shanks to go rusty in the humid conditions we get in Aus so I remade them using commercial size cutting boards. The beauty was that they were small enough to remove and have on the router table but big enough to have a selection on each board. I then colour coded with blue for straight, yellow for round overs and chamfers and green for specials such as lock mitre bits etc. Each tray was the runner as well so simply slid back into place when done.
@DownUnderWoodWorks4 жыл бұрын
Michael Linahan Thanks for that Michael. I can see how the MDF could cause rust so I’ll be keeping my eye on that.

It did work well! Love these sorts of space 'plugging' exercises. Bit storage is another project on my to do list, but will probably have to wait until I build my new mitre station first as I might work the drawers into that. Top stuff.

I made a similar rack for storing Dremel bits. Drilled holes in MDF 0.5mm oversized to the shafts. Backed with it another piece of MDF. Dropped a small amount of superglue then a rare earth magnet into the holes. Hangs vertically and takes up no space on my custom made carving bench. :) There's are photo of it on my handmade timber fishing lure pages (Havok Custom Lures). Made in Australia :) great to see a maker from Aus producing KZbin videos.

Thanks Al. I like the idea of the vertical storage, sounds great.

Thanks for the video. I don't have that many router bits but I've found you don't need to have that many to be left wondering where you should store them, rather than using up bench space.

Nice details in that simple design. I'll have to take a look at my setup, though one tray will do for my collection of router bits. Can you give us a little on wood glue? We (Australia and perhaps NZ) seem to get a different brand and range than in north America where so many wood work channels I follow originate, so its difficult to know which ones to use for different jobs down under.
@DavesShed4 жыл бұрын
Good idea. I have mostly used Titebond because that is what I've seen by North American youTubers. However when I have used local clear PVA it has worked really well.
@catey624 жыл бұрын
I agree too..so many channels on here are US/ Canada based and use products you just cant get here in Oz.
@DavesShed4 жыл бұрын
@@catey62 Yes. It's also frustrating when things being discussed are not in metric. That is one reason I created my channel.There are a few Australian and NZ woodworker channels and most of them promote each other. Vic here at DUWW has been great at doing that. Hence it's up to us to create a bit of a sub community.
@DownUnderWoodWorks4 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, great to see the discussion below. I have been using Titebond since i starting my Channel about 4 years ago. it is a superior glue but i can't compare it to local PVAs because i simply don't use them. I buy my Titebond from Carbatec here in Sydney and if you search for it you'll find other retailers that sell it. I buy the big 1 Gallon (approx 4 Lt) bottle and it lasts me about a year.i'm happy with its strength and the price i pay so i haven't seen the need to try anything else.
