Doug's analysis of the hand is good except for one thing. Brunson and Elezra have played thousands of hands together. Doyle knows Eli likes action and that, even more, Eli hates to get bluffed. In other words, Big Papa knows his opponent, hence the check on the turn and the check-raise on the river works against Eli where it might well not work against someone else.
@Matthew-bx5yf3 жыл бұрын
Eli even says this outright when he says, "You played solid all night and checked twice into me." Doyle knows that Eli hit his set of Queens by the bet Eli makes on the flop and knows that his check-raise on the river (where he overbets) is going to read weak. Absolutely solid play.

I’m forever convinced that any poker analysis will never be accurate. If you can see the hole cards, you instantly have a frame of mind entirely different from the actual hand as it was played.
@hapyhapyhapy48864 жыл бұрын
The reason why these analysis videos are useless is because they do not take into account that players do not have the complete information, whereas when you watch a replay, you are biased for a certain action because you know the outcome in advance. Poker is a game of incomplete information, you cannot analyze the situation afterwards. I agree with you.

Doug, respectfully, I think you left something important out of your analysis that speaks to some of the ‘oddness’ of the way this hand went down. A game between strangers would likely play differently. Just a thought. Rock On, Sir; I’m a fan.

I don't mind the insight. But yes, needs to shorten it up. And honestly, him judging Doyle should have bet twice leading after the Turn & River... I cringed. He's clearly trapping knowing he's got the best hand. Any indication the Queen or Jack helped him diminishes his chances of a possible raise(s). It takes skill to play the long game and not get trigger shy after making the boat. Also, DB could be losing to a bigger boat. He sized up El's final bet and made a solid decision to extract more value and a possible read he's got him beat. Side note I wonder if Elezra threw in a smallish bet after the Turn and get a call from DB, would it have saved him money in the long run after calling the 70k.

Doyle was repping a spade draw, not a set. Something like A10/AJ/KJ/J10 of spades are all well within his range to call a small raise from the blind in a straddled hand, especially since Elezra is basically playing a random hand. That's why he check raised the flop and checked the turn when the board paired. Many players will check raise their bid draws in that situation. The second queen is the absolute worst card for a flush draw. I think Elezra believes that Doyle is on a draw after he checks the queen, which is why he checked back, not wanting Doyle to make the correct fold. Note the small size of Elezra's value bet on the river. He's hoping that Doyle hit the Jack to make 2-pair with something like AJ/KJ/J10 of spades. Enough of a hand to make a crying call. Doyle's check raise on the river was repping a busted-draw bluff. That's why he overbet the raise.
@kylelooper21565 жыл бұрын
@@VicenzoV At the point where he raises river, Doyle's hand is absolutely either a boat or a bluff, but if you watch the video carefully, Doyle has been selling the bluff hard throughout the hand. Watch how he fumbles his chip shuffle (twice) on fourth street like he's scared of the queen and contemplating the bluff right there. When Ely asks for information on the river, Doyle says that he's "too choked up" to answer (which should have been a clue to Elezra, as only dead silence really conveys that someone is fearful to answer), but Doyle has been expertly selling the bluff for so long that Ely can't help himself. If Doyle missed a spade draw, then he would play the hand exactly as he did. Raising the river is the only way to rep the boat. It was a masterful performance. EDIT: I just watched the video again, and clued in on another small aspect of Doyle's play. He asks whether Ely has any big chips on the flop before raising. Ely's quick reply, "one," tells Doyle that Ely has a made hand and is likely not going away. The most likely hands are top pair, two pair, both of which Doyle has beat. Ely could also have had a flush draw, which would have to consider folding to Doyle's raise. I think that Ely's quick reply convinced Doyle that Ely was not betting a semi-bluff but had a made hand of top pair+ that could stand a check raise on the flop. When the queen hits the turn, Doyle really only needs to fear Q3 (and QJ on the river) which would have been a huge cold deck. It's interesting to consider what Doyle would have done if Ely had shipped it on the river over Doyle's raise, but that's a play that requires somebody like Tom Dwan to pull off. Ely is far too straightforward a player to test Doyle in that way (turning his trips into a bluff on the river).

BlackAcesBlackEights i can't say Ive ever seen him run a huge checkraise bluff, but from what I've seen his bet sizing is consistently huge if he has it or not. in this exact spot it is kind of questionable that he would ever checkraise as a bluff, with a check-check turn it makes a lot of sense for him to just go ahead and bet if he is going to bluff

The way how Doyle played this hand was just ingenius. First checking and wait if someone hit top pair or so, then raising. Checking on the turn to get more chips from the oppononent, and finally checking again so that it seems his first check-raise was just a bluff and he probably would give up the hand. Then just raising high again. The opponent should have fold at least at the river because after the second check-raise of Doyle it was clear that he really has a big hand.

Doug, Great hand by hand analysis as usual. I will add that perhaps part of the reason Doyle played the hand like he did has to do with previous action. On the turn, Doyle asks about Elezra's chips and stated "Where did he get all that money?". He was told by others that Elezra bought back in. Knowing Elezra, he's going to be hungry and looking for a big win, which can be favorable for Doyle to play it exactly the way he did.

Think you analysis is completely wrong, Doyle is "representing" that he has a flush draw the entire hand after the flop. When the flush does not get there, Doyle is hoping Elezra thinks that Doyle missed his flush and is confident that he is in the lead. I assume Doyle thinks either Elezra has a high pair in his hand or actually has a Queen after he comes along after the flop. Doyle is hoping Elezra is wanting to try to build the pot after the river card and Doyle's bet is a bluff. It looks like Doyle has been bluffing the entire hand.

Doug is one of the best heads up poker players of all time, you’re the clown mate.

You missed the key piece of dialogue that gave away why Doyle played this hand that way. Elezra says "You played solid all night and then you checked twice into me." In other words, Doyle offset the line to bait the trap. Doyle had him on a Queen when Elezra bet the flop. When the turn hit, and Doyle hit his boat, he knew that a check wouldn't fit his usual bet pattern and his last check raise would look like a bluff attempt. That's also why he overbet the pot. Doyle knew he wouldnt' lay the set down. And he also knew he played the hand well.

How does the hand play out if Elezra has QJ?

Are u blind, or something?
@leemassey60543 жыл бұрын
Couple things, Doyle knew Elezra had the queen. Also, Doug is explaining this from a playing GTO perspective and Doyle and Elezra are playing the game from what they know about each other so that may make the hand not make sense from a theory standpoint but Doyle knew wth he was doing. Supported by the fact that he got Elezra to call his all in bet and took most of his stack.

He always plays tricky trappy and i don't even think you can value town doyle on the riv. I think that is a check if doyle is polarized and and you couldn't value bet riv then what can doyle call with on the riv now? only what beats him lol so if he was going to value bet it was going to be the turn.
@JT295017 жыл бұрын
Don't forget Doyle sometimes likes to flat high pocket pairs in the small blind and raise the flop, I'm sure he'd make a similar check raise to this with KK on the Q high flop or AA on the K high flop. That's kind of what he's representing to me when he checks twice and so maybe Eli thinks he can get value out of that sort of thing. I think one of the big problems with this though is that Doyle probably wouldn't pull that move against Phil Laak, he'd have to be specifically targeting Eli in the straddle.

Need a ruling here. What's the rules on showing your cards in Texas holdem. What happens if you explode your cards in the middle of a game
@dochmbi7 жыл бұрын
Flop is an easy exploitative fold against Doyle, if you've watched him play in cash games you know how much of a nit he is. Don't lead in the first place though.
@MattD867 жыл бұрын
dochmbi Not very "exploitative" to fold top pair with a deuce kicker to a huge check raise but I understand your burning desire to mix in words like exploitative and GTO whenever possible
@Skoobzify7 жыл бұрын
speedy1388 he used exploitative in exactly the right way. You ignorance is cute, but it makes your condescension really sad
@MattD867 жыл бұрын
Skoobzify Why was it used in exactly the right way? Because flatting is for sure GTO in that spot? So by folding he's exploiting Doyle's assumed narrow range?
