So let me rephrase what you are saying: Bluffing = playing bad. That’s basically what you are saying when you think Doug shouldn’t 3-barrel one of his best bluffing hands, if not THE best. I’m impressed how many people fail to understand sound logic after 18 minutes long explanations. If you don’t understand a play ask questions but don’t assume you have a better understanding of the game than one of the best poker players out there. Sure, Fedor is better but Doug is not too bad either. ;)

I'll ignore the fact that he had planned on betting all-in instead of 30k on the river if the board didn't double pair; I'll ignore the fact that a 60k bet is very different than a 30k bet. I'll ignore that even if his 60k bet got called it doesn't mean his line is bad because you have to bluff a lot at higher stakes games to be profitable because most players will beat the strategies I use to try (and fail) to win at low stakes." I think that sums it up.

@@Nasdupree9090why would Doug EVER play an ace like that? Absolutely no reason to raise that flop with any Ace, it's an easy call. He's saying I have a Seven, or I have a bluff. That River suck out reminds me of a hand I was in at Turning Stone Casino in New York about 9 years ago that cost me the biggest pot of my life! (and represented about 1/2 years net income on my day job) This was when they had a bigger cash game ($5-$10 NL $5K max), and I had bought in for $5,000 and had a stack of a bit over $7,000 when this hand started. I have QT suited and I flat call a $50 bet preflop out of position. Three players including me see the flop,...which comes QQK rainbow. One player bets pot size $150, I raise to $2,000 to isolate this player, player after me folds, and the $150 bettor calls my raise. The turn comes a TEN, giving me the QQQTT boat, and the guy checks to me. I shove my $5,000 remaining and he calls with what I later learn is AK os. So he's come ALL this way with my big raise and bets on that QQK flop with just K's,...and he CALLS my $5K turn bet besides,.....geeze. River comes the case K, as a player said later he folded a K. So there I lost a $14,000+ pot to a lucky river giving him KKKQQ higher boat on a ONE outer! The Poker God's are mighty cruel sometimes, rewarding really bad play as what happened here with Doug's hand. :-)

Hey Doug, when you bet 1,5 pot on the turn you should have 5/7 value and 2/7 bluffs, correct? That being said, the value hands are Ah7h, 7h7s, 9h7h, 9s7s, 6s7s, 6h7h, 7h8h and 7s8s for a total of 8 hands, and you say you would have 4 or 5 combos that you would want to bluff with, shouldn't a balanced range have only 3 bluffs? Does position matter when constructing your ranges/sizes? Does the fact of still having a betting round on the river changes de combos from 3 to 4 or 5? Anyways, nice hand and great video

Hey Doug, by deciding to raise the flop with 89s 86s 96s as bluffs and 7x as value bets, doesn't that make your hand have way small coverage there, he is basically safe on any A,2,3,4,K,Q,J,T turn. You cover some of them with the backdoor flush draw, but that doesn't really seem like much. Thanks in advance!

Yeah - Berkey totally outplayed Doug by happening to have one of the very few hands that can stand a river barrel. That is not outplaying somebody, it’s called getting lucky. Doug got lucky, too - that’s part of the game. Are you saying Doug should not raise the flop with his holding? Well - with what hands do you bluff-raise the flop then? It’s a fact that Doug has THE best bluffing hand he can have, it’s a MUST bluff if you want to raise any hands on the flop.
@ofusowre76207 жыл бұрын
Schnackfatt A must bluff is a bit too much. Polk could ofc fold the hand when he saw the flop. It s nor like he would loose much. It s a ton of flops which would be better to bluff at. In fact to raise this flop is very risky. The flop is 77A. And you put your opponent on an Ace or worst case a 7. It s hard to fold an Ace, which is the most likely holding so at least you would have to expect a call. And you probably have to bluff the turn and river as well. Even if you do it s a chance your opponent will call you down with A/J, Ace/Q and A/K. Which are reasonable holdings considering the preflop action. The goal of a bluff is to make your opponent fold right? Why bluff when it s a good chance your opponent will call. And he did call right? It s possible to fold a weaker Ace yes, but this play is actually not that good in my opinon. Only if you play vs a very tight player or someone playing with scared money. In most cases you will loose a lot of money and Polk was lucky.
@SchnackfattLP7 жыл бұрын
Ove Tang It’s a must bluff because it’s objectively your BEST bluffing hand. If you don’t want to bluff with your best bluffing hand, you are never ever bluffing. Simple as that. While you are correct that our opponent is rarely folding the flop, that isn’t really our goal on the flop. We are already planning to barrel turn and river as well on certain runouts. Yes, it sucks when the opponent calls your overbet on the turn but you simply have to bluff most rivers at this point. If you don’t follow through on the river, you are never bluffing. That is a bad strategy. Why? If you want to value-bet the river with ANY hand, you simply have to put bluffs in your range. Typically, you start with your best bluffing hands and add as many as you need math-wise (I’m terrible at that). Since we have the best bluffing hand possible we have no decision to make in that regard. We simply HAVE to bluff. Also: If you expect your opponent to call down with any Ax in his range, on these stakes, for a $100k pot, you are out of your mind. That is never happening. Berkey just got lucky that he had one of his best Ax so he was able to stand the turn and river barrel. Yes, he got unlucky in the end but that doesn’t matter because equity-wise Berkey won 95% of the pot (if we look at the pot growing from the turn).

Did you literally just type "Berkey got lucky to have AK" lmao.

Very interesting hand. Could you possibly play AK the same way some %age of the time given he could hero call worse or fold the same? Combo wise its dicey since Ax as common as 7x if you hold an ace, but that obv isn't the case vs a 5x utg...

I don't think it is a good play to raise AK on the flop given matts sizing. However, it could make sense if berkley had gone for a 30% pot bet instead.

Decent chance Matt knew you would interpret his flop bet exactly as you did and randomly try rep trips

I love how you justify your crappy overbet, actually everything up to the point of the miracle card on the river. Well... I guess the poker gods were with you.

i'm just curious @DougPolkPoker if the river was like an offsuit 3 what you do there and what cards are you just barrel the river like this 9 man ? :)

You went from 0 on the flop to lucky hero by the river, and you rub the guy's face in it? I'm actually a bit suprised at your lack of humbleness.

Hey Doug, great hand here. Question, if the river bricks do you still barrel here after Berkey's call on the flop and turn? If so, how much? Learning a lot from your content. Thanks

Should’ve folded to his flop bet. You were all but drawing dead. Flopping only backdoor draws when you know your opponent has a made hand should tell you to fold and find another spot. If the goal was to represent a 7, then raising on the flop was a terrible idea. I think you played this hand worse than a newbie 1/2 cash game player. The far fetched justifications of blockers and so forth is gibberish.

Against this size, your opponent can fold happily. “Now I know I don’t have much here….” 😂😂 GG Doug

You got lucky Doug.. If à blank had come on the river I feel you would of lost the hand except if you put in a massive over bet rep the 7, you may have got a fold, or not. You will never know
