I had to like and subscribe immediately! Your editing and energy is fantastic! I truly appreciate this video as someone’s who’s been scouring KZbin for the best advice! Eureka. I do have a question and hope you will see this and someday answer. If I want to have guest and use USB mics what is the most practical set up? Thank you x1000! I will be watching more videos
@DoYouEvenBlog3 жыл бұрын
Nah I’ll respond now ;) You mean if your guest is there with you? Ideally you’d use two different USB mics plugged into one computer, and you can use just about any DAW (Audacity?) to record both people on two different tracks. That’ll be much easier than trying to squeeze 2 people on one mic (but that’s also totally cool to start with! Just make sure both people are positioned close enough to the mic.)
@DoYouEvenBlog3 жыл бұрын
Clarification: two separate dynamic mics, such as the ATR2100 or similar.

Hey! So if you get the atr mic, all you need is the mic stand, headphones, windscreen, hard drive, usb cable and you can just record into your laptop? I won’t need a mixer?

No mixer! And technically the rest of that is optional as well. The ATR is a USB mic, so ya just plug it straight into your computer.

So if I’m starting a podcast that’s going to be me and my buddy, I would need the zoom h5. Would I still need an audio interface?
@DoYouEvenBlog3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, and not necessarily. You could use an audio interface (with the ability to connect at least 2 mics). This is absolutely the cheaper and easier option IMO. You could also use a separate digital record (like the h5, etc). You’d just have to transfer files from that to your computer. An extra step, and it’s more expensive-but you don’t have to have a computer (I.e. it’s portable)

I'm going to purchase the Focuserite 2i2 Gen 2 Audio interface...and from what I have gathered If I'm looking to have at least 2 people on a podcast and they both want to use headphones, I will also need the Mackie 4 way Headphone amplifier. My question is how do I plug the audio interface into the head phone amplifier, so all guests can have a pair of headphones? Is there a cord I need? TSR?
@DoYouEvenBlog3 жыл бұрын
No clue, as I've never used any of that tech :) I hear great things about the Focusrite, not sure what's going on with needing a headphone amplifier though? Honestly just don't know though, I'm afraid! Also, why do they need headphones if they're in the same room? Not saying they don't. Just curious.

Is it possible to use 2 USB mics simultaneously for a 2-person setup for podcast recording without messing up the audio? I want to use the cheaper option and get USB mics, but I have a co-host and I keep reading that if you have more than 1 host and you don't want the audio to be messed up, use XLR mics (which cost more). Any advice? Thanks!
@DoYouEvenBlog4 жыл бұрын
This might actually depend on your software as well. I.e. I'm not sure audacity could do this (I'd have to dive deeper), but I think Hindenberg Pro (paid) touts this as one of their bigger features. Personally, I've done this using Logic Pro before. i've plugged in 2 usb mics, used Logic Pro to record, and simply selected the different mics on 2 different tracks. The issue that everybody brings up is audio "bleed," i.e. one person's voice bleeding into the other and vice versa. Dynamic mics are a must! I've definitely noticed the bleed--but it hasn't been so awful as to be unlistenable.
@tonymoore16712 жыл бұрын
Pete - love your content - its genuine. My question is about a mixer. Do I need one? I would love to add some audio effects to my audio-only pod (to add some humor etc). My guests and I record using zencastr. My ATR is plugged into my laptop. I export to Audacity for editing and some added effects (EQ, Compression, Normalizing and Amplification) and then I export these individual tracks into Hindenburg for the final product (with music). Whew. Soooooo - do I need mixer and If so - where does it fit into the workflow?

Yeah I mostly glossed over that one, but here's my thoughts: Low-end = Grab a $100 webcam, and record yourself recording your podcast! (Using a tool like OBS or Ecamm Live (mac only). You could also just use those softwares to record the video/audio at the same time--and export the audio in post-production for the podcast. Depends on your mic setup probably. High-end = Grab a DSLR you can plug into your computer (either via USB or HDMI using a Camlink 4k). This is what I use for recording KZbin videos (you can see most of my gear for that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5jWo4yhesh4bpY
