I do find How To Get Away With Murder hard to watch I have to say - that kind of cut throat world doesnt do it for me, really. She moves between the aspects of that character beautifully though - from the hard-ass lawyer to someone so sensitive and with such emotional depth and vulnerability, its truly incredible. For me she is one of the most powerful and attractive actresses Ive seen of any ethnicity, and Im glad shes started to get the recognition she deserves. :)

Watching this because I just saw Fences. It's amazing to see what a different person she is in real life. Some crazy good acting.

Im going to come back later and watch this interview because viola was still young and trying to find herself. I think that the majority of actors can adjust and present themselves well in any interview but have a difficult time with having an identity of there own because they have played so many roles of so many other people. Like I said before she was young in this particular video and with life lessons she has really bloomed.

I saw this interview when it was first put on KZbin, and out of the 16.000 views (as of September 2022), about 200 must be from me. I've come back to it on occasion over the years, for a variety of reasons, and needless to say, it has been of huge significance to me. As people love to say, I "identified" with a lot of the things Viola Davis says about drama, acting, the way a work of art is supposed to, well, work... but also about insecurity, how people see you and receive your image, agency, and many many other things. And I'm not an actor. I would also point out that that feeling of coming out of the theater (or a movie theater) and being convinced of something, that's exactly what Viola achieves in "Doubt". Her character and her acting elevated the movie by putting all the jigsaw pieces just in the right place. It was incredible for me as an audience, 18 years of age at the time, watching "Doubt" in my home country, far away from the US. Viola Davis did convince me, that's for sure. Thank you for this interview, David.

This interview feels like her speaking her role in, How to Get Away With Murder into existence. She drew the very thing to her that she could not yet see for herself or other women actors of color. This is amazing to me.....

Transparent. Who else has the courage to pull down their psychic drawers in public, that is, without being maudlin or an exhibitionist?
