So many of Ethan Hawke's movies tend to resonate with me - the Before series, Dead Poet's Society, Gattaca, Great Expectations, Before the Devil Knows you're Dead, Training Day, Alive, A Midnight Clear. He picks, for the most part, quality projects with sincere motivations behind them. Fantastic, natural on-screen presence. This was a great interview. Again, DP/30 delivers a thoughtful, warm and engaging conversation that totally vibes with respect and substance.

Gattica is to this day one of my favorite films of all time. I never understood why it wasnt more well known and appreciated but I learned to keep it in my hip pocket almost like a song you loved but didn’t want anyone but your closest to know about. I always appreciated his performances and I found this interview to be insightful and thoughtfully self examining. I wish there were more films like his choices that focused on character as much as the plot. Well done.

Very true! Very wise words @ 5:43 and 21:09. A lot of his observations are 'life' lessons and not limited to just acting imho. I related a lot to what he said about how it was difficult to maintain a sense of self worth (let alone identity) from whatever casting director's thought of him. Big lesson in life right there!

15:20 I love how he says "important movies" in air quotes. So right, go ahead and give birdman the Oscar but in 100 years I'm sure no one will care, but Boyhood will last the centuries.
@someoneelse96807 жыл бұрын
Are you sure that's not just a reflection of how you feel ? Cause I'm reality they're both amazing works of film but if anytnkng boyhood wouldn't pass the test of time like something like Birdman I don't think he's at all alluding to that film
@cockoffgewgle49937 жыл бұрын
Birdman isn't an "important movie". I think he's more referencing "issue" movies that deal with politics/race/etc. And it's better than Boyhood, which was good.

Great actor, very genuine and talented, unpretentious and underrated. Now it is very painful though to listen to the interviewer who is one of the worst I have ever heard. The guy laughs at most of what he says, often sounds like he is eating when he talks, mostly asks yes/no questions that go nowhere and simply sounds like he knows nothing about anything.
