Thanks so much for such a great brief explanation. Could you please help to explain what if the liquid level exceeds 100% and in case of no actions to lower the level, what is the signal we can see in the trend sent from LIT?
@realpars2 жыл бұрын
Hi Phuong. Thanks for your question. In most cases, the level transmitter output will not exceed 20 mA even if the tank level exceeds 100%. So, as far as any trend is concerned, the level is 100%. But, no properly designed level control system will allow this situation to occur. There will be alarms for high levels such as 80% and 90%. For example, at 80%, an alarm will be triggered alerting a control room operator. If the level continues to rise after the operator attempts correction, there will be a safety shutdown that occurs at dangerous levels. Depending on the system, the shutdown could include automatically turning off pumps or opening drain valves.

@@realpars Thanks so much for your clear explanation. I totally agree that good designed level control system will not allow this situation to occur. In practical, we had been facing with the liquid level exceeded 100% as some water overfilling activities during the Annual Shutdown that unexpectedly let the water come into the vessel. The level alarm high and high high were activated with the level control actions as you mentioned above; however, draining cannot operate due to the isolation of the downstream system (which was done as shutdown plans). The level transmitter (magnetostrictive type) then sent the > 20 mA output, and the trend shown level from 100% drop to Level fault -1%, which corresponded to the High and High high alarm was not shown anymore in the HMI screen. The CCR operator thought that the level was normal and start-up the system. Could you kindly advice any improvements of the control system should be done to prevent this situation happened in the future?

You can change it, of course, but it's typically 21.8 mA for high, and 3.7 mA for low.
