Friedkin is a bold and opinionated filmmaker. I admire how he likes to delve into detail about the questions he answers.

W. Friedkin, is one of the best (also FF Coppola) filmmakers who convey excellent practical and informative film discourse and teaching. He also has great stories. I was so surprised to learn it was Friedkin who did Killer Joe. It was so modern and darkly funny. He looks great too for his age.

When someone tries to convince me that this film maker or that film maker is 'daring' for the films he makes, I remind them that Billy here made the black as night comedy Killer Joe when he was in his 70's! That's proper daring!

Wow. Thriller to learn that Friedkin performed Berg. That's fantastic. LULU and WOZZECK are both in an intense, bold new language, even today, alien harmonic landscapes.

killer joe didn't even get a release in germany, it just went straight to dvd and it's such a shame, because it's truly a return to form for a master of the cinema.

It gets funnier every time I see it too. It's the blackest comedy I have ever seen I think.

He looks great here, younger than his age I'd agree, but 50?? 😂 He looks 65 at least, which is fine, considering he must be 75 here.

mik 02910 You forget Frears and Scorsese. But ageism is rampant in this industry and you are citing the extreme rarities. I’m not unaware. But the topic is legit.

@@davidpoland6257 The problem is the the interviewer. He keeps coming back to his age. Even asks "are your legs still good?". You can see Friedkin get uncomfortable . Ageism topic is legit (discrimination cos someone's age). And it's being displayed inside this video!

The original Excorsist was great. Why dumb it down with that lame director's cut? All the subtle and believable buildup disappeared. The clearest example was that stupid 'spider walk' scene. After that scene how could the mother still doubt about the condition of her daughter? What illness makes a person be able to rapidly walk backward down a flight of stairs and vomit blood. It's a freaky moment but makes no sense within the believable buildup.

Barely any good films come out of America anymore, let alone out of Hollywood. The King's Speech is a middle of road film. Of course they the academy will vote for some dull, oscar baiting film like that. It could have easily been a studio film.

It's a crying shame a great film like Killer Joe only gets released in 36 theaters domestic cos of the NC-17 rating. Regardless - great to see Friedkin back on top form with fab reviews, despite approaching 80.

The interviewer is way off on that comment of the rarity of "over 60" directors. At the time of this interview you had over 60 directors putting out great stuff: Steven Spielberg, Jonathan Demme, David Cronenberg, Woody Allen, Marty Scorcese, Paul Schrader, Ridley Scott, Friedkin, himself--and on and on.
@badinfluence3814
@badinfluence3814 9 ай бұрын
Yeah, strange comment I thought. Even now Spielberg, Scorsese, Coppola, Allen, Polanski are all working in their 80s. Ridley Scott is more prolific than ever in his mid 80s - he went straight from Napoleon to shooting Gladiator 2! Incredible.
