I've got a Cuckoo Clock from the same Factory on my Birthday on Tuesday. I cleaned the Movement and now it works fine.

I have learned so much and fixed a lot of Cuckoo clocks from watching your videos. Is there any way you could put together a list of the tools needed to put the bushings in? I would like to try to do that but not really sure how to find the right tools and sizes..
@dperry4288 ай бұрын
I'll try to do that sometime in the next week.

dperry-When you are putting this 8 day clock back together, other than the spider gear alignment that you describe, is there anything else that needs alignment, ie. like the gears for the rack and snail, etc.? Thanks. Loved this video.
@dperry4285 ай бұрын
Yes. With the strike side in its locked position, the pin on the warning wheel will be against the stop lever detent. The rack should be completed in the lifted position. Then the gathering pallet is installed so that the tab or pin that rides on it is in the notch of the gathering pallet. When installing the rack and snail, the snail should be set so that the rack tail that falls on the steps of the snail is in the middle of a step when it falls at or near the hour. When setting the pieces for opening the cuckoo door, the "flag" on the lower portion of the bird perch should be behind the detent of the lever that pushes it in.

@@dperry428 Don--since my Star wheel is pressed on, and I didn't remove it in the cleaning process, how do I do the alignment you discuss in the video? What is the "locked position"? Do I make these other adjustments from the Front side of the clock by moving the position of the teeth in the wheels? As I said I'm a newbie on this and this is the first one I've taken completely apart. Thanks.

That's why I remove the star wheel, broach it to fit loosely, drill and tap a hole and add a set screw. You can either slightly separate the plates to move the wheel train until the star wheel is in the correct position and then disengage the warning wheel (the one with the pin on its side) and move it to the top where it engages the lever detent. That's a real PITA that can get very frustrating, having to do it over and over until things are right. I'd take a pair of pliers to very firmly grip the arbor of the star wheel between the plates and grasp the brass collar on the star wheel with another pair and twist it on the arbor to the correct position. That way, you don't have to separate plates. You just have to be careful when twisting not to put lateral pressure on the arbor and bend it.

Is the cost of repairing or the cost of a new movement the best way foreward , I have been quoted £92 gbp for new and rebushing/cleaning etc over £200gbp, A straight swop with a new movement looks simple enough for a non trained person who likes a challenge.
@dperry428Ай бұрын
Do as you will, but the newer movements are NOT the same quality as the older, no matter what someone tells you. For a lot of people, too, who are having a family heirloom returned to function, is the replacement of the old movement really keeping grandma's old clock in the family? Is the sound they heard in their childhood the same sound coming from the one with a different movement? Is it still grandma's clock? I say NO! You say what you will. I will continue to do actual repairs, not some cosmetic BS

@@dperry428 Thank you for your reply Sir ! although a little blunt in some respects . I can see your a died in the wool repairer at any costs, This clock was purchased by myself in the Black Forest when Rving near 55 years ago I am now 78 years old aprox 25 years ago it had a new regla 34 movement fitted owing to high costs of repair at that time and now we are at that same junction once again. I checked the prices of a similer new clock and they are over £650gbp so £92gbp sounds good value overall and lets be honest the so called ticking noise at my age is a distant memory but the cuckoo bellows are the original plus my three cats have tried to kill the cuckoo many times Lol !

Whatever you decide to do, enjoy the clock while you can. Time is running out for both of us. I'm 81, trying to get everything done that I need to do. Now, last week, at my age, my appendix decided it needed to be removed and I'm having to waste more time recovering before I can get back to doing what needs done.

@@dperry428 Had a couple of blue light trips owing to lung problems this last year i have zero love of hospitals and they love those needles so much draining your blood bloody vampires the lot of them, Hope you requested the scars below the bikini line so you can still kick sand on those young studs at the local beach, think of the loss of your appendix as weight loss without the diet, Good luck with your health and keep making those youtube vids they are very interesting to watch.

The surgery was done laparoscopically, so no large incision, but one of the small incisions was directly into the navel. Gross and really, really sore.

How do I contact you for repairs?
@dperry4288 ай бұрын
I'm hesitant to take repairs except for locals. I'm 81 years old and, if anything were to happen to me, I don't want to leave clocks that belong to people far away that might not even be finished. I have several clocks to repair right now. You can contact me and, if I'm around when I'm caught up, we can arrange a time. I will leave this email online only a short time.
