I wonder where in America or internet, I can find good sliders like those you are using. Are they specify by weight resistant?
@DPShopTalk
@DPShopTalk 6 жыл бұрын
+Joey Cymbals I always use 100 lb weight rated slides for drawers and pull outs. I'll put a couple of links below for slides that I've used and recommend. Accuride makes a high quality slide. They are a bit more expensive but are less greasy and work very well. amzn.to/2y8D3Di The Pro Series slides are much more economical and still work very well. I find they do have a bit more grease on them so I usually wear a glove when handling them like I did in this video. That avoids getting grease on the finished project. I've used these slides on a lot of different projects from pull outs to kitchen drawers. amzn.to/2xqKYrM

Same. I've used 100lb and seen others do the same. It seems to be a good rule of thumb.

The links are backwards but I get the point. I have them both in my Amazon's wish list. Thanks for bother in looking the links for me. That's very kind, have a great winter!!

I really don't understand people giving this a thumb's down. Most people click on the video, because they have an interest in learning how to build shelves. If this is you, and you gave it a thumbs down, do you know how much free information you just got? If you got this info in a college course you paid for, you would be thrilled. You just got that for free from the comfort of watching it on your screen wherever you are in only a few minutes. Whether you agree with everything he did or not, the amount of information that can be absorbed is pretty amazing. Think about that.

Thanks for your comment Robert, I appreciate it. I've never really understood the thumbs down either. Even if I don't really like a video all that much I'll just move on and not give it a thumbs up. Like you said it's free information that someone has taken their own time and resources to create. In my opinion, unless a video is very offensive, a thumbs down is just rude.

OMG Robert! I 100% agree about the wonderful free information that Dan is giving. My husband and I know absolutely nothing about carpentry but are trying to learn if we can find a very simple but effective way to retrofit my very small, (appx 5’x13 in double door pantry), with shelves into our 1925 bungalow. I just came home from having a double mastectomy and cannot lift heavy objects anymore. Dan’s is gifted and I truly appreciate his videos. Dan you get 2 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 from us. Stay 😷

I always thought I was the only one who would write something like 23 1/4 (-1/32) on my cut list. But you’re right, it’s faster and easier that way. I like the style of your video. It’s concise and easy to understand!!

Easily the best video on this topic. So many videos skip the important details for measuring the width of the drawer which for me is the hardest part to get right with my project (doing the same thing of adding pull out shelves in my island). Thank you!

I reckon this is the most comprehensive tutorial I've seen on making and retrofitting kitchen drawers. I'm saving this one for future reference. Brilliant idea, on how not to get confused in the final figure, by deducting the 32nd afterwards. However, had to lol - unnecessary and far simpler in metric. Yes, to further tutorials.
@DPShopTalk

+howard dove Yeah for things like this metric would be simpler. I use metric for some hardware installs but still build most things in imperial.

Thanks for the detailed and thoughtful video, Dan. Using your steps I was able to retrofit a poorly laid-out cupboard to instead be much more useful thanks to pull-out shelves. While mine were rather significantly more 'aesthetically challenged' than yours (thanks to inexperience and a more limited tool set), this video was the key to helping me complete my project. Appreciate it!

I use solid wood on each rail piece and rabbit a 1/4” slot for a floating 1/4” plywood bottom the latest job I did was 14 pullouts all maple with 2 coats of sprayed clear finish. This makes for extremely strong shelves which will never be susceptible to kitchen moisture. I like to use KV slides. As for the set up for install you are spot on. Nice easy to understand video!!

To save some screws and holes I use solid maple rails with 1/4” dado to accept shelf bottom which is also 1/4” maple plywood. I do not glue bottom to rails I leave it floating. I have shelves filled with over 35# of can goods and still holding strong. For finish I use a commercial sealer and spray finish as we have a commercial wood working shop.

Excellent, clear and well organized video, thanks. I will be adapting the instructions to install shelving for a set of five stereo components (amp, turntable, tuner, cassette player, and cd player) into an existing closed-in cabinet space. My main problem is how to manage the various cords and cables required for the various units. Possibly there is other useful information online that will help me with this. Otherwise you might consider creating a how-to video for something like that.
