Keep cutting wood without a mask and you'll likely end up like my friend at work. He retired, bought some acres, built a big shop full of tools, and started pursuing his lifelong love of woodworking full-time. 5 years later he was dead from pulmonary fibrosis caused by breathing in fine particulate wood dust. Mask up and live!

I love the honesty and transparency, it’s a great way to teach when projects don’t go smoothly all the time and you have to find solutions. The fact that you don’t lose your mind every time something goes wrong is incredible, my husband would be losing his mind and end up breaking what he was building 😂 I think you should be able to at least curse, just bleep it, it’ll be so funny 😆

I used your idea for a pull out cabinet and created a secret liquor cabinet in my bar area. The tip about putting castors is what made this project a reality. I also included some LED strips on each shelf. When you pull the cabinet open all shelves light up from the bottom of the bottles, a very cool affect. Thank you for your inspiration and tips.

Definitely a great solution for an awkward sized space! For anyone looking to do something similar, Fulterer makes pantry slides that attach to the top and bottom of the drawer and are rated for higher loads than typical under-mount slides (up to 450lbs). I just installed two pullouts side-by-side in a large pantry and am very happy with how smooth they operate despite being loaded with cans and other heavy items.

Two things: I think you should extend the toe kick around the side to hide the wheels when the cabinet is extended. And if you find the unit drifts side to side add wooden strips on either side of the wheels as guides.

What I like the most about this project is that there was no "Master Plan" or Set of Drawings. Seems to me that there was a concept, an idea, AND then it was "let's go build it". Making changes, revisions, improvements along the way. That is how many of us "everyday folk" attack a project. We learn a lot by watching Pro's like you go from concept to finished product and doing so the "Prepared Route", but it is also educational to watch you improvise as a road block hits you. I think this is pull out pantry is going to be a huge success in your kitchen and it's looking really good! Take care and have a good one! 🖐 :D

We inherited a pull-out pantry with our kitchen, which is our primary food storage area. After living with it for 5 years, I can honestly say I hate it. Hard to get odd shaped food containers in and out. Anything hanging out beyond the edges of the shelf will interfere with closing the cabinet. I plan to replace it with a traditional pantry with open storage in the doors as well. All that said, I do really like your idea to use pull-out storage for cleaning supplies. I think I’ll repurpose those cabinets in our hall closet for that use. Thanks for the inspiration Bob!

I made a full length pull out spice rack like this, turned out great.. tips: dont underestimate the weight of the cupboard, make sure the casters are nice and beefy also dont rely on the rails to carry any weight either. you can hide the casters and anything unsightly by making a mitred box and mounting it to the bottom of the cupboard

Yes! and if you were planning on storing heavy stuff like bowling balls you could add under mount slides upside down on the top. Get rid of those wheels. Just frame the open side like frame and panel w/o the panel to stiffen up that side. Even with the side mount slides you could do top and bottom on both sides.

I would suggest the vacuum goes in the front section (made slimmer of course), and all the storage goes at the back. You will access the vacuum more than you access the other stuff. If you screw the last runner on the top further towards the back of the unit, it will slide out further but still be able to be pushed all of the way in. You can see in the last minute where you slide it in, the last runner doesn't go all the way in. That means you have some inches to play with. 👍
@alans18163 жыл бұрын
Looks good! I would bore finger holes in the back near each slide release. As many point out, a toe kick on the cabinet would look good, even though it would necessitate removing more of the bottom of the old cabinet. But that would make it possible to clean.

Then use a trim router to route the plugs down flush. I have used that technique a few times when doing built in book cases. stained and non stained finished clear wood. That way you do not have to worry about glue going everywhere.

Another approach to this would be to use 4 casters on the bottom (2 fixed, 2 swivel) and use something like a bi-fold door track and wheel or even something heavier duty like a garage door track and wheel (I tend to over-engineer things) at the top. This would give you full range of linear movement in the unit without having to worry about limit on full extension with the drawer glides. An additional fix is to use some of the nylon (like what is used in NFS cutting boards) as a frictionless surface against the inside wall and the back of the cabinet.
