In this video, I document the troubleshooting & repair of a Marantz SR8002 AV receiver that's stuck in standby mode. It turns out to be a simple fix, but it still requires a lot of quality work.

Thanks for the awesome video. Sudden flashing LED and it turned out to be the same failed resistor. Got a new one soldered in today and seem to be back in business.

You are an Angel for the many of us here and specially me a layman. I have separates, Marantz MM 7055 paired to AV 7005.. My MM 7055 amplifier prior to being totally dead while my AV 7005 still powers up was intermittently starting up with a delay of 20 seconds of clicking sound from the amplifier and then playing music for a good 10 to 15 minutes then preceding to some scratchy disturbances for 10 secs or so, and then a pin drop silence with no audible music from the source, but both the display from the units still powered up. I had then to unplug and re power the unit just to notice the same cycle again. Lately there is no more activation from the amplifier but it is totally dead, while my AV 7005 displays and powers up. I tired checking the speakers wire for any shortages, also disconnected and reconnected the mains power, but the amp is just dead. Could you kindly throw some light as to what must have happened. It took a month or so to totally die with an average play time of 15 minutes a day. Thanks in advance for your kind assistance. Regards from Antonio Goa, India. God bless.

Sweet troubleshooting man, what I would have done verbatim! Confirm nothing on the line is shorted then Inject voltage to the reg input and see if it will output the +15 , I also would have been suspicious about just the resistor being the issue but if it holds up under load - ship it. Nicely done.

Very nice explanation. I always am familiar that in circuit measurement can be a bit sketchy. The resistor was low in this case. But i enjoyed your vid. I have a zr6001 going in to protection so im going to check wat this is causing

Hi, very high quality analysis on this. You change by safety the condensators, this is a reasonable safety action. Got this sr 7100, do you think i should ask the repair center to replace those also ?

The NJM2068DD op amp chip on the unit I was servicing needed replacing. There are four of these on the main amp board. Check them all as they are often overlooked. Also, this coincided with a open fusible resistor on the power board mentioned here.

Hey my friend, I have this amp (newer models now but I kept this one because I love it) but years ago when I had it sitting unplugged for months, and hooked it back up to my system then- suddenly I stopped getting output to my back L and R equally. Took it apart and looked around, tried factory reset and checked settings and switching speakers to make sure etc. Even using internal test tone had nothing appear to those 2 out of blue. What do you think I should focus on- I recently bought an oscilloscope (Siglenet SDS1202X-E) to even start trouble shooting all my electronic hobbies and learn on, along with a cheap Klein multimeter- if you know of any good schematics or people w similar issue can you please direct me towards it, I'd really appreciate it!

I have a Marantz 8000, that I replaced the output relays. They go bad over time. But, now I have an issue that one side speaker outputs go out when pressing on the boards. I cleaned all pins and sockets of the parallel boards to the main. Must be some bad solder joints I hope. Do you see these have bad solder joints on the sockets maybe???

Interesting video and well explained. I have the same problem. However, I do have +15V and -15V when I hold down "PURE DIRECT", "7.1CH INPUT" & "CLEAR". So the R903 and R904 are not the problem here. Any idea what else could be causing this problem?

Hi,I have a marantz zr6001, and it was working well, a few days ago, about 1 hour of operation, it turns off showing a message "check pow5" and you check that there is no speaker cable in mao contact, I also put a fan and it always gives that problem, I would appreciate it if you help me ...

My marantz wouldn’t turn on, the front board doesn’t light up, I can hear two relays clicking but not sure if they’re working properly. I did notice that after about two minutes after the initial clicking of the relays they don’t work no more (no more clicking sounds) when I try to turn the unit on. Would you please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

Supplying a 15V regulator which I believe is linear with 21V is a bit high. [ lot of heat and wasted energy] I rather see 16V-17V delivered to the regulator with ample current source so the input does not drop much under load. I have the same unit with the same flashing standby, only my problem appeared during a power outage while using a generator to power the house. Likely a surge on the opposite leg being loaded causing the neutral to be pulled up increasing the voltage to the circuit the receiver was on. I don't know it the receiver was powered on when it happened. What could be the problem? I deal with electronics and have the service manual, but this unit is so complex and a little out of my league.

I've never had luck finding suitable replacement transformers for audio equipment. I would verify the transformer is the issue first. It's likely that something else in the unit is causing the noise.

This is AMAZING. I have a SR7002 which stopped working completely a few years ago. I didn't look at it for years because that just made me depressed. When it "broke" it smelled like something had burned. Do you think I have a different problem than the one(s) you found? Could it be something as simple as a fuse? I opened it and tried to physically locate the problem and the strongest smell was from down where you said it was impossible to reach.

If you have a burnt smell, it’s probably more than a fuse problem. A component or several or many was probably destroyed. If you can get to it, it should be obvious visibly.

It’s possible to have a similar problem but there are other problems that can cause the issue as well. You’ll have to review the service manual documentation and schematics (if they’re available) to see if they have similar circuit designs.

I’ll assume you mean the 5V regulator. The part number is L78M05. You can find these at most electronic distributors, including Digi-Key and Mouser. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to get the processor anymore.

i love your video as i have both marantz 7002 and 8002 with the same issue, i noticed before they failed, i was receiving a shock from both units but everything is connected correct in bi-amp mode. canyou explain the possible cause of fuzzy shock that i am getting and if your fix will solve this, thanks.

hi mine Marantz SR8002 giving trouble first front panel touch buttons start giving problem. we get change then both rotary front switch giving irregular change in select and volume switch we get it changed then after 1-year front display gets dead. sent to the centre they ask us to change the display board it cost around 300 $. I think Marantz was previous premium brand but now they are also in cost-cutting by choosing china parts with less life as we opened the changed switches seen they get rust due to poor gold plating on contact parts of the switch. If Marantz like we can give 100$ more if he uses high-grade components. Repairing is expensive and the product loses it values. The more you send to repair center the pcs get scratches all over and dusty inside. They don't care about looks they just see how they can charge more & more according to model no. .

Stuff just isnt made to be repaired anymore sadly, most is throw away junk you cant get parts or schematics for or stuff is so tiny or has multilayer boards impossible to fix. Good job here. Koshin caps hmmmm save em a couple pennies each.

I've seen at least a couple where only the resistor was bad. Seen one or two others that were repeat failures with a shorted bridge rectifier failing later on. The resistors hold up better if replaced with 0.22 ohm (accepted replacement per Marantz). Watch out for those small cylindrical fuses near the rectifier - obviously yours were good.

Mine is doing the same thing, maybe because of a power surge while using a generator blew the resistors.
