I got my best results by having warm water in plastic containers, no sound of running water. Then I would pet the cat while it sat in the laundry sink. Gradually adding my wet soapy hand. Soon the cat was getting a soapy massage. Rinsing was by gently pouring clear warm water over the cat while petting. It worked out much, much better than using running water from a hose or faucet.

Same! Some days ago I had to bathe my cat, and I also discovered that, even tho she hates any sound related to the shower, she gets calmer if there's music inside the bathroom. Robert Smith yea bc all cats have or share the same personality as this one? Most cats can’t be tamed in the shower so the best way to clean them is by force and by force defiantly not abuse! Bc most people would always interpret the case of showering a cat is traumatic or abuse .....and probably if these people would bring out non professionally trained cats and we’ll see some actual result ! @@dannaj4507 There are basic things we humans can do not to get the shit scratches our of us. I ain't a professional but how you raise your car makes a huge difference. The younger they are the better as it makes it easier to teach them. My cats neither scratch nor bite at all. I can bathe them and they will want to jump out but since I do basic things they do not try to scratch my eyes out at any point and to them baths are just horrible and uncomfortable and not a total nightmare. I had owned a lot of cats through the years and every cat that I had since they were young, have been lovely though their personalities do differ.

Thank you for this video. Our Chocolate British Shorthair kitten is not the best at self cleaning, he did very well using your technique, the towel at the bottom of the tub made him feel more secure, as opposed to the kitchen sink on our last failed attempt. He is now happily cleaning himself like never before.

+The Fur Monsters Please don't take this the wrong way as I mean no offense. With cats unless what your doing is causing pain, it is a matter of trust. The more the cat trusts you the more it will allow you to do things to it like trimming nails and giving baths. I am sure your a nice person so it is not that the cat can't trust you but likely just has not learnt to trust you. Try in purring sessions to once in a while hold a paw for a second then let go. Over time increase the length of time you hold the paw until your cat allows you to gently hold the paw for a few minutes at least. Then maybe add a gentle squeeze the paw to show the claws. Then once it is used to that you should be able to introduce the clipping, maybe do just one claw at 1st, quick and painless. Just make sure you don't clip to far up the claw and cause pain or bleeding or that will put an end to the trust and you may have to start all over. I find same goes with other things too. Slowly introduce them. My cat did not like me combing(she hates brushes) her tail/back side. I slowly introduced it to her with a few combs of the tail now and again until I now can comb her tail as long as I want. Once in a very blue moon she had poops she can't pass and now she has allowed me to gently pull on the poops doing a slight twist at the same time which helps her. I have learnt to know when to stop and I release her and she jumps up and rushes to the litter box and finishes the job there. BTW, before I get comments, it is rare and I have changed her diet some and at times give her a drop of petroleum jelly on her paw which she licks off when I notice her eating has slowed down some and it helps her. Even as a kitten she had hard little bullets as poop.

Our cat used to bath herself! She would jump up into the bathroom sink, push up the water faucet handle with her head and then roll around in the water. Of course she didn't turn the faucet off. And she would try to dry herself in my sons bed! She would do this often in the summer and we would come home to the water running. Since water is precious and expensive in CA, we had to change the faucet. Now she just jumps in the shower with my son, if he doesn't close the bathroom door tightly.

My cat showers with my husband. Not often, only when she feels like it. She loves the water dripping softly onto her ("rain showerhead") then when she is wet enough, he shampooes her and she sits until she is rinsed. One tip: do not apply (cat) shampoo on the cat, but on your hand, feels so much more comfortable for her

I just ran across this video but when we first got our kittens (they were 6 weeks old) we began bathing them every 3-4 weeks and by the time they (a Tabby [Taffy] and a Calico [Callie]) were accustomed to baths so much so that when we would run baths for ourselves they would run and jump in thinking it was for them lol. My childhood cat was a Siamese and we lived near a pit (coal mine). The cat was always black with dust. He was washed monthly in a bath with the warm water up to his shoulders. He loved it.

*Note she specifically says bathing is only necessary if there's a health reason*. Also obviously if they've fallen in some mess, paint, mud, oil whatever. But don't just bathe your cats for amusement or to make it prettier for you, it's traumatic for them. Only if they need it :)

*** big time tips*** 🐈 I just gave my kitten his 1st bath. With no scratches and bites but I'm lucky to have a kitten who easy-going temperament. 1- dont show fear and try not to be too nervous about it 2-talk to the kitten and constantly have your hands on them to calm and clean at the same time. No matter what they are going to want to jump out of the water at first. 3- have everything ready before hand. shampoo diluted, 2 towels, brushes(if you have a long hair cat), a water bucket if u need one, toys, calming essences (wish we had those), and treats at the ready in short have EVERYTHING PREPARED. 4- don't rush but also don't let the process drag because my cat was so nervous. -5 introduce the cat to the water very slowly and gently and after the introduction keep the bath swift as to get the ordeal over with. Also keep the water levels low and warm. I wish you all luck on your upcoming bath battles.🐱

My cat pants and digs his head between my arms. I feel so bad. But he has such bad dandruff in the winter. I used this soap works cedar pet shampoo. I have bad dandruff in the winter too. I like the shampoo even on my self. It's odd he will play in toilet water, in the snow and in the rain. He will watch me shower and bath yet he hates being bathed or showered. His coat looks so much cleaner now.

Dr. Becker makes it look so easy. The closest I come to bathing my kitties is giving them nice warm wet towel bath. It's just warm water, no shampoo or fragrances, but my kitties love it! And it happens at a spot where they are comfortable - inside or outside the house. But sticking them into a bathtub or a sink ain't happening. I think every cat parent understands!

I kept telling him, the whole time, it's okay, it's okay! His eyes were very dilated, I could tell he was apprehensive but you did such a wonderful job. As long as the assistant was petting him and reassuring him that no one was gonna hurt him, he was pretty much okay. That was SO cute!!!!! He's a little doll! Now, he's nice and clean!!! Our cat lets me wet her down so that she is pretty soaking wet but I can't let water run over her. She purrs her head off when I clean her up. I wet her down and dry her with paper towels and brush and brush. After that her little eyes start closing like she's falling asleep. I just love cats. They're so small so they get scared easy but I always reassure her. They really do take cues from us.

Yes! I mix the cat shampoo too in the water so the first pour is basically lathering them already and then the next is rinse. Easy peasy.
