Jesus never explicitly said, “I am God, worship me” or did he? Imagine if a person came to you and told you that he was God, you would surely mock him and tell him that he was out of his mind and you would also call him a blasphemer and wouldn’t believe him or accept what he says. So why would you demand something from Jesus which you aren’t going to accept anyway? If Jesus had openly said that He was God then he would have been stoned to death on the spot for supposedly blaspheming God. If Jesus had been stoned on the spot then He wouldn’t be able to preach about the Kingdom of God to the people and so nobody would be saved because He would die even before He could begin to preach. Also, the reason why Jesus was crucified on the cross was because He was claiming to be equal to God. That is why you don’t see Jesus openly claiming to be God at the beginning of His three and a half year ministry on the earth. There are some passages in the Bible which affirm the fact that Jesus is God. Some of them are: John 1:1; 14 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Here in the first part of the first verse Jesus is referred to as the Word and in the last part of the verse it says that the Word was God. Therefore, it is clear from this verse that Jesus is God. In the second verse it says that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, so it re-affirms the fact that the Word who was God was indeed Jesus Christ. John 14: 8 - 11 8. Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” 9. Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10. “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11. “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the works themselves. John 10:30 30. “I and My Father are one.” In John 14:9, Jesus tells Philip that he who has seen Him has seen the Father and it is made even more clear in John 10:30 when Jesus says, “I and My Father are one. If you notice the verses that follow i.e. verses 31 and 33, the Jews pick up stones to stone Jesus and they call Him a blasphemer for making Himself equal to God and that is why Jesus doesn’t openly claim to be God because He knows how a normal God fearing monotheistic believer will react to such a claim. Colossians 1:15 15. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. Here in this passage it says that Jesus is the image of the invisible God and that by Him all things were created through Him and for Him. And we know that God is the One who created all things, so from this passage also we can conclude that Jesus is God. One thing that we have to keep in mind is that we do not have to search the Bible for a portion which says that Jesus said “worship me” if we have already proved from the Bible that He is God. God demands worship because He and He alone is worthy of it. He is the only being that truly deserves worship. He requests that we acknowledge His greatness, His power, and His glory John 8:58 & 59 58. Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.” 59. Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. This is a direct reference to Exodus 3:14 14. And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ “ In the above verse Jesus was saying that He was ‘I AM’ of the Old Testament i.e. He was saying that He was God. Again over here we see in John 8:59 that they picked up stones to throw at Him. Philippians 2: 5 - 8 5. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6. who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God. 7. but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8. And being found in the appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Here Paul states that Jesus is God and that He took on human form. Now a common accusation that I hear very often and one which was brought to me by a Muslim friend of mine was that Paul had corrupted the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My response to that accusation was very simple. I showed him Galatians 1:8 8. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. 9. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. Here, Paul says that if they, or an angel from heaven preaches any other gospel other than what they had preached to the people there then let that person be under a curse. He repeats this statement again in the next verse to show the severity of the matter. We all believe that God is Omnipotent i.e. He is Almighty and there is nothing impossible for Him to do. A few verses from the Bible which say the same are: Jeremiah 32: 27 27. “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? Luke 18:27 27. But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” So if we all say that nothing is impossible with God then why do we find it so hard to believe that God could take the form of a man and come to this earth since nothing is impossible for Him. There are instances in the Bible where Jesus accepts worship, forgives sins and even accepts prayer, these are things that only God can do. Here are some of the many verses: Matthew 14:33 33. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” Matthew 28:9; 17 9. And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. 17. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. Mark 3:11 11. "And whenever the unclean spirits beheld him, they fell down before him and cried out, ‘You are the Son of God.’" John 9:35-38 35. Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?” 36. He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?” 37. And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.” 38. Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him. John 5:22-23 22. "For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, 23. that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him. Notice that Jesus doesn’t say to honor Him as one honors a prophet or one’s parents. Jesus very bluntly says that He must be honored in exactly the same way God is honored, i.e. Jesus is demanding the very worship due to God since the way one honors God is to worship Him. Luke 7:48 & 49 48. Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” 49. And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Mark 2: 5 - 7 5. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” 6. And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7. “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” John 14:13-14 13. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

SubhaanAllah!!!! Dr Bilal Philips' and my country Pakistan have the same year of birth. But again SubhaanAllah, he is preaching Islam at such a higher scale, only his university has a quarter million students and there will be for sure even more than this, people listening him and acceptin Islam on his hand. And we Pakistanis are still unable to instill Islam for which our ancestors literally earned this country against their lives. May Allah SWT grant him much more barakah in his life, iman and to practice it, health, and knowledge.
