I purchased this a couple of months ago and put it through its paces. It's a good machine - however it has the potential to be a great machine if DR would only upgrade some internal parts.

Delivered a nice even cut, has the super tight turning ability kzbin.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend I was looking for, and is just a blast to drive. It takes a little bit to get used to driving one after driving a normal tractor style, but once you've got it, you've got it. If you're cutting lines, you have to be careful spinning the mower around or the back tire will dig a bare spot. Just take it nice and slow during the turn and then it's back to full throttle across the yard!

I regret buying this machine. I'm dropping reviews everywhere people might see them as a buyer beware - I wish I could tell any of you how well the mower works - but we received it in August, unboxed and assembled, followed all pre-use instructions, and the drive belt shredded after only several hundred feet of use. Mower won't drive forward without it, so we had to tow it back to the house. Called and spoke with the company, they agreed that there must have been an issue with the belt, but we don't have a nearby DR dealer shop or a winch to load a very heavy machine that won't drive itself forward/up a ramp, so they recommend replacing the belt ourselves. The trouble is, this mower is not user-service friendly. So, after paying 3K$, here we are on the floor of our garage with a brand-new machine, inching our way through each overly complicated step to replace this drive belt, and consequently we don't have a single kind thing to say about this machine. Since we live in WA, we may not get to even try this thing out again until next May when the rains stop.

I have a couple of the older ones with the 26" spoked solid tires. One has electric start. They are very tough and no flats. But a cheap tractor with brush hog is better and cheaper than if you buy one of these new, I just have a hundred dollars in both of mine. They have their places in small tight spaces.

Thanks for sharing both and congrats on owning that lovely peace of Gods green earth. Peace and good health be with you in these difficult times. If I may offer a small bit of advice. Be careful with these mowers and other people or pets being near by, I’ve had mine throw some debris out that would definitely injure. God bless.

My Dr. Fields brush cutter is 25 years old but only gets used a couple times a year. I just broke a belt on it which is the first repair I have had to do on the machine. The battery died years ago but I just jump it and it runs until I shut it off (original battery). This is by far one heck of a machine.

@RuralVibesVa
@RuralVibesVa 5 жыл бұрын
Deacon my overall thoughts are if this is the only thing you have at your disposal at the moment ( or can have purchase wise ) I would still get it just to get the work done. If however there job isn’t to big - I would look into renting a professional one as this base unit was around $1300 at time of purchase. I more recently tried to use this brush mower again and the cable that control forward and reverse just snapped for no reason. DR should def put higher quality components in these units. What you see in the video I did over the course of maybe a month a half. I lived 30 min away at the time so wasn’t able to go that often. I used this brush mower and a high quality pole saw.

I did rent a the machine, used it for about a week. 3 things did break on it, I called the Rental Store and asked if I could do a field repair. They said yes. ( I live WAY OUT in the country) I have 2 Brush Hogs that are too large for what I want to do, now I'm looking for a 5' or 6' used Brush Hog to widen the trails some. Thank you again.

In the “after” pictures, did you clean up any debris or is that all the output of the machine going over it several times? If the latter, about how many passes did it take to get that mulch like consistency? Thanks!
@RuralVibesVa
@RuralVibesVa 5 жыл бұрын
The only debris I cleaned out separately are the tree limbs I cut with a pole saw. I then chipped them and used that as the mulch around the trees. As far as the vines at actual brush it was just from the brush mower, and I did have to "groom" it as the vines etc would lay down so I had to work it. If your in more "woody brush" I would think if you took it nice and easy one would would do...? Hope this helps!

Alan R there is another one I think it’s called something with the word “goat”. It seems to be more commercial quality but higher in cost. It also seems to be what I’ve seen at rental places so have it would be worth the extra cost. All depends on your budget etc.

You could buy 15 of these base model DR brush mowers for the cost of a Ventrac 4500. So J Gonz3 is spot on. Now on the other hand you could probably rent a Ventrac and attachments for a few days and that would likely have been quicker and easier than using the DR unit.

@Shane-Singleton
@Shane-Singleton 5 жыл бұрын
@@mustangdbest220 Well unlimited funds does tend to skew the the equation. But if I understand the video correctly he already has a tractor and a brush hog on it. So this was only really needed to get into tight spaces under trees, on the fence line, etc. As somebody who has spent the last month or so clearing out my own land I know a 5 foot brush hog on the back of a tractor can plow through most things, The trouble is getting a tractor in and around trees that you may want to leave standing, fence lines, etc. Especially if the tractor doesn't have a live PTO and has to be moving to have PTO power. Josh over at the Stoney Ridge Farm is leasing a Ventrac and it seems to be an excellent piece of gear. But I'm really wondering why he needs it when he has all of the tractors and impliments he could need for any farm or yard work. The only thing i'm really lacking for my setup is a finish mower. And the only reason I don't have one of those is because I was gifted a 72" Commercial Scag mower by our neighbor who upgraded a few years ago.
