My wife had diagnosed Lymphoma,(cancer 4stage) in October 2018. She had been given 13 chemotherapy as well as 25 3dcrt radiation at Tata memorial hospital, Mumbai and B Barua hospital Guwahati respectively. The treatment took around 8 months. Since then she has started at least 1hour morning walk everyday with me till today. My experienced is that regular walking made her a healthy person physically and mentally.

This is so on point. I live in a village by the forest in Sweden, I go for a walk in the forest everyday with my dog. We spend around 30 min to 1 hour daily. It makes me feel very happy and content.

That is why I always tell people, including and especially my patients, that a habit of going for walks daily is a 'Superpower', a powerful medicine. How I wish I live near a forest like you, so I travel 15 mins to forested area at a nature reserve / reservoir for my daily walks.

I understand it’s hard getting into exercising but if you grit and bear it a couple weeks, it really gets ingrained into your routine and you begin to feel weird if you ever miss a gym day or a walk. I work out every day and then do a 2-4 mile walk depending on my mood for the day. Any day I ever miss, whether something comes up, or inclement weather, I always feel kinda weird. Love my walks with music. It’s definitely my me-time

An excellent relevant video. Anyone can walk and the benefits are amazing. My doctor told me it would be beneficial to start walking each day. My mood picked up and being in nature was fun. He said 30 minutes at a minimum but try to do it each day. Lost weight was an extra benefit as I was happier walking.

I started walking plus brisk walking few weeks ago and wow I feel so good… calf muscles are so good now, lost some arm fats and don’t feel tired upon waking up and don’t need anymore naps. Love it!!! Will make sure I stay disciplined on this! If it is too cold use walking routine videos from home on KZbin. It gets very cold and gloomy here in winter so I am doing that. Plus walking outdoors where it’s not always flat grounds, with up and down the sloped paths can do us more harm than good cos our knees ligaments tendons etc can be injured.

Great practical advice Dr. Chan. Everyone knows walking is good for them, but most people don't know all of these benefits, which will hopefully motivate more people to walk regularly. Whenever I'm very stressed and anxious, walking always makes me feel better, more relaxed and a more positive mood after. I need to walk more, it's difficult here in Canada in the winter as it's freezing.

I am 68 years old and have been a competitive runner in my youth and even a Masters competitive runner until 10 years ago. I stopped because it became a strain to race and I was not enjoying it. For the past several years I have jogged three to four days a week for about twenty minutes at a time. I have even done 4 Park runs in the last few years however the last one I did was 10 months ago and I found this too gruelling and haven't been back. I have a goal to return to Park run and enjoy it. I have tried to lose weight over the years but have been unsuccessful and am 5 kilos overweight. The reason for my comments is that for the last two days I have gone for 30 minute walks and afterwards felt terrific. It has been a while since I have had that "endorphins" type feeling. As well, I slept really well last night. Sleep is important to me since I have Bipolar. The upshot is that today I resolve to walk 30 minutes every day and I want to put this resolve out there to show I am committed. By the way, thanks Dr Chan for your excellent video.

Yes, walking, often wrongly seen by many as 'inferior' an exercise compared to more vigorous activities like running, swimming or cycling, can be powerful medicine indeed for the mind, body and soul, especially when one is able to do so daily or at least regularly. Glad that you have 'discovered' the power of a daily walking habit 👍
