This video changed my life. I was raised in church and my father is a baptist pastor. I was so sheltered that I never knew about the history of antisemitism in the church. It was not a discussion. I was 17 years old when I watched this and learned about antisemitism... And came to terms with my sexuality. This video, along with Matthew Vines, helped me accept I was gay. Thank you.

Dear viewers and specifically Dr. David Gushee, I am a 22 Years old, gay, and (African American) and I love Jesus dearly. I want to thank you so much, for the work that you are doing and for the great encouragement your words have brought me. I have indeed been in some rocky places in life. I’ve been homeless (Since 18, I was adopted with neglectful parents), abandoned, raped, and everything that accompanies not only being a minority in both sectors of society (Racially and sexually) but I also have Cerebral Palsy. When you spoke of LGBT youth and homelessness, I knew all to well the reality. Many friends that I have met in homeless shelters are LGBT and have struggled and still struggle with the reality of God’s acceptance for them. The issue of weather my sexuality is right, before God’s eyes has plagued me for many years, and I really feel like I am beginning to really understand what the true heart of Jesus is for His people. I believe on the same token that wisdom must be administered. For we are indeed called to be separate from the world, however we are all human and make mistakes. The reality is, that being gay should never be likened to pedophilia or bestiality and that the doctrine most prominent today shuns us as people. I must confess though I used to think and sometimes openly speak in the same wave length until I discovered that I was actually harming myself. As I clung so tightly to the traditionalist view scared that God would not love me, I realized that it was not producing the fruits of Righteousness, I became anxious, scared, angry and bitter. It was in that place that I realized that Jesus Christ see’s and loves me, just as I am, and I was fearfully and wonderfully made! Thank you for your words, and thank you for reading.

I answered you in the other post, and God has mercy of you, same way He had it with me to open my eyes, and lead me to repentance. Please, feel free to write to my email luisbragagnolo at gmail I would like to be more in contact with you.

Joseph Pierce! wow! my story is soooo similar..I also love Jesus and seek Him with all my heart. I am 31. For Years, during my 20's I cried out to God to change me, to take the same sex desires away. I was so depressed, lonely, suicidal, filled with self hatred and shame because I thought my family, the church and God had rejected me. I would weep for hours on my floor at night pouring out my heart to God, telling Him everything, worshiping Him, singing songs of praise, trusting Him to change me. The road has been tough and if it wasn't for yhe joy of knowing Jesus I don't know where I would be. But then I came to a revelation and God began speaking to me. He was trying to tell me that I love you just the way you are! Embrace who you are, I knit you together in your mother's womb you are fearfully and wonderfully made! at first I could not accept this because I couldn't accept God's love and still have the attractions and sexual desire for other males. But I realized wow Jesus loves me just the way that I am! all of the depression lifted! the clouds rolled away! I began to look in the mirror and love what I saw! Jesus didn't change my desires..He changed my view of Him..that He's not this angry old bearded man in the sky but he's a loving Father who was never wringing his hands saying Oh boy what am I going to do about these desires that he has? no, He was trying to reveal to me His love. He was happy that through all that time I had a relationship with Him, that I had an audience with Him..that He knew me and I knew Him. That he had my presence and I had His presence. I am now looking for a soul mate. Someone to share my life with, to serve, to love to have fun and laugh with. To say Yes to and care for. And to everyone else..God loves you just the way you are! Allow His love into your heart.

***** I have nothing to repent for. God created me the way I am. I don't need scripture or anyone else telling me I or we need to repent for being gay. End of argument. God is not wrathful, and I think that He has much bigger fish to fry, instead of eradicating a gay from the earth because he is gay. What God do you listen to or ascribe to? And why are you so ignorant and judgmental towards others?

I was listening to Christian radio in 2011 while driving and the preacher, who otherwise seemed normal, suddenly said that "countries that put homosexuals to death are doing the right thing." and I nearly swerved and crashed. I wasn't even fully affirming at the time, but the evil of the statement shook me deeply and I'll never forget it.

I am a straight African American who was raised and have attended traditional Pentecostal churches all of my life. Over the period of about a decade, my faith had been rocked particularly around the LGBTQ question and the way the church approaches it. Knowing that there's a movement at the grassroots to turn our attention to the actual teachings of Christ has restored my faith and allows me to grow in Christ. I now go to a more progressive church where I feel I can congregate and live the way Christ really intended. My message to those LGBTQ- particularly in the black community- who are stuck in churches that will exploit your gifts but treat you as a second-class citizen in the body, just leave. Find a church where your spirit will be lifted up and nurtured instead of constantly trampled upon.

+Jesse Toler I can't answer that for you. I don't purport to see into one's heart. I know that in my journey, I can no longer reconcile the fact that the discussion on this issue from the leaders of many churches grossly outweighs how much it's mentioned in the bible(not mentioned at all by Christ himself). Also, the manner in which I've seen it done is also not in the manner that I believe Christ would have dealt with this- if he would dealt with it at all. That's where I'm at on this.

Jesse Toler If your church has a belief on homosexuality that does not come from Scripture, but instead comes from a bias from an early church father or tradition that has been made into Gospel by that church (easily proven), yes, your church is practicing bigotry and in turn so are you if you follow the tenets of that church.

Scripture doesn't even explicitly condemn homosexuality, only English translations did (Dr. Robert AJ Gagnon, an anti-gay scholar even says that it was gay shrine prostitution that was most likely condemned in Leviticus since shrine prostitution, especially for Moloch, was a huge problem for Israelites).

Well sinners who do NOT repent of their sins will not be saved.. however.. homosexual-ism as you call it is not sin.. when the Bible is referring to homosexuality it is referring to men raping men and straight men sleeping with boys(as it was their practice back then). The old testament references also don't apply because we do no follow the old testament law because of the new covenant. So I admit I don't have all the answers, but me being gay is NOT a sin.. but my choices that I make in life will either be honouring or not honoring to God just like any straight person. If I lie, or cheat, or treat people wrong..that is sin.. not who I love. :)

Chad Woodward When you say: ""it is referring to men raping men and straight men sleeping with boys(as it was their practice back then)"" Can you tell me how do you conclude that? Because you are twisting something that it is very clear: Because the Bible literal says: ""nor men who practice homosexuality"" The practice of homosexuality is a sin, exactly like lie etc as you mention. The problem is that you want to twist the Word of God just to keep practicing that sin. Please, read again The Bible, read this and put attention to the vers. 11: 1 Corinthians 6:9-11English Standard Version (ESV) 9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 AND SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU. BUT YOU WERE WASHED, YOU WERE SANCTIFIED,YOU WERE JUSTIFIED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND BY THE SPIRIT OF OUR GOD

+Luis Bragagnolo I hope you realize eventually and many of the commenters on here that when God judges us at the end days he's not going to pull out a Bible he's going to look at Jesus for the answer that is the paradigm that we all need to understand and is crucial for us to grow as believers. the Bible is not, & I repeat NOT the inherent Word of God the Bible is just a collective works of writings from the apostles put together by the Nicene Creed. The Word of God is Jesus, I've seen so many believers that have yet to understand this very basic fundamental truth! you have missed it completely! be careful when you throw around judgment and other people because of the measure that you use to judge others with the Scriptures you will be judged according to that same measure. But when you allow Jesus to be the judge he is merciful and will not judge you the same way. if you call yourself a Christian, and if you indeed are a follower of Jesus you must understand the difference between the Scriptures and the word who is Jesus!

***** excuse me, let me rephrase that. They were using the Old Testament or the Torah since day one, and that fact you're correct, however the New Testament and the Epistles that were written we're not used or ever called the Bible, the scriptures that were used in Jesus time was the Torah or the first four books of the Bible. That's the point of making. Jesus is the fulfillment of the law. Could you please tell me what Jesus has to say about gay folks? Or could you tell me what any of the Apostles have to say about gay folks outside of the context of pagan idolatry and disgusting orgies? because honestly it's overwhelmingly apparent to me that scriptures that are used to condemn gay people are stripped of their context and used as ammunition, when if we all use the same measure of judgment that those people use against the gay community we'd all be doomed. The point is not whether it's right or wrong the fact of the matter is and I believe Jesus would have pointed it out as well is that the measure in which people are judging, and which they have no right or no understanding to judge unfortunately you don't understand those things.

As an atheist, I have a huge amount of respect for Christians that are actually trying to live according to their beliefs. Way too many religious people live as complete hypocrites, and are anything but "Christ Like" in their actions and treatment of others. Dr. Gushee is stating what should be obvious to everyone: excluding people that are supposed to be God's children from inclusion in your religion is anything but loving. I just have never understood how a heterosexual person could think that God would create someone with different attractions than heterosexual, and then think it is not completely cruel and horrible to doom them to living a life absent the love and care of a life partner. I would ask every straight Christian if they would be willing to live alone and unloved for the entirety of their lives in order not to "sin", just to show how it should be done.

***** My point is White is deceptive about his education and that's a red flag. White is not a Pastor. I completely agree with you that an Ivy league education doesn't necessarily trump a correct exegesis, but I'll go with a graduate of a school that has no set, anti-gay, bias in their bylaws from the start like you get from Evangelical schools. And you said it all with checking Scripture for yourself and many just don't see this condemnation with the Bible you think is there as a Bible scholar or as a lay Christian.

Jesse Toler Don Fry is the Pastor of the church and White is only an elder. Most Evangelical schools are far from fair on the subject because they are beholden to the churches that fund the schools (read Baptists). The Presbyterian church fairly and rationally approached the subject from Scripture and because of it they now accept homosexuals. It was F.F.Bruce who once said he we would get e-mails from professors at Evangelical schools saying they found no condemnation of loving homosexual relationships in the Bible, but were afraid of saying anything for fear of losing their jobs.

Regarding the LGBT community this is where I came to my Conclusion as a follower of Christ I believe his teachings hold truth and value while the Bible doesn't in most cases I believe the bible Is a book of prophecies Not a book we should have for a moral compass. Most christians Forget who is the word Of GOD which is not the Bible It clearly states in John 1:14 that the word is Jesus Christ. And John 3:16 to who ever believes in him Shall not perish but have ever lasting life Even Gays Can call Jesus Saviour. Gays have been treated Horribly just because 6 clobber passages in the Bible. I noticed that Most christians Use those passages to Condemn Gays, have it occurred to them They might have been reading MAN'S WRITTEN WORDS? Today we have Bigots Haters of the Gays don't you think we Had those Back then even the writters were Not holier then us. I remember the bible stated that All MEN FALL SHORT FROM THE GLORY OF GOD and so were these men Just because they were lead by the holy Spirit Doesn't mean That they were holier then us. I've seen pastors say they were moved by the spirit To Make thier congregation Give them more money, I also seen One that said they holy Spirit was Talking to him and he said Barrack Obama is a homosexual FAGGOT lover And thst was in Front of my congregation with kids in the audience. Just because the bible Is written for us To Seek God It doesn't mean most of it were of God's Sayings remember Man had thier say in The bible too That's Why *We Ask God to help us comprehend and ask God to give us the discerning Spirit when reading he bible in the first place he knew men were going to write the bible.* Picture this If I were a writter and went back in time and Saw 2 men kissing I say that's Unatural and Sinful And I write it in the bible.. I come back to the present and See most will follow My words to a T meaning that They are following MY VIEWS and not of God's. There was People back then Who disliked Gays and even then (Some were confused to what Being Gay is..) the word Homosexual wasn't a word that Was real In Jesus Time and to take the words Homo and Sexual one concludes my theory about Homo. Homo sapiens are Humans And Homo erectus Is Humans there weren't such thing as hetero sapiens or Hetero erectus it's Homo so if we put the word together that is Homosexual it's (humans That are sexual) which straights Can take part in so We are all Homo sexuals literally and the word hetero was a Made up word to split The humans sex. Animals Display Same sex behaviour as well so if God Hated that trait He would not have the animal Display it and since they are sinless they are natural and do what Nature intended to do. I think of it this way God gave that trait because he knows it's going to work for him because not only it's for social Bonding it's also his way of SLOWING down Said species from over populating to stem it to a normality. Ever wondered after the events in the bible that should have wiped gays out from existence aka Sodom and gamora Gays still Live today.. its a trait not a change or Chance or Option for some. Beside read ezekiel on why the cities went down which doesn't Talk about Gays nor homosexuals. Men gathered around to Rape The angels and the angels were beautiful these men who gathered were straight as well maybe even Gay or Bi since it's a.mix of Sexual orientations in all cities the acts of rape Is one kf the deadly sins Rape was Bad. Sodom and gamora was like a jail system These men were straight but did wicked acts like rape anyone who came in to Thier cities just because they denied lots Daughters doesn't Necessarily mean they were gay They wanted to ruin these angels and make them weak and easier to control. All the passages Even the NIV which I don't trust the New world Orders Bible which is spread out in different languages The NIV gets corinthians wrong.. and corinthians talks about effeminate meaning men who were jewelery and make up to make thier selves younger and more youthful when back then it was about masculinity. Also abusers of themselves with mankind was Prostitution. In the KJV there were no words Homosexual in corinthians 1. Also about Romans well Read what became before Romans 1. Paul went to Rome and he stepped out of his comfort zone and saw Orgies Men on men and women on women they were drunk and Had worshipped sex and Other God's. Paul did not care they were gay he cared because they did Orgies And Got drunk worshipped other Gods and such. He came back to his people and told them do any of you want to condemn these people? All of his followers answer yes and he said back at them you are no better then them. I'm sure if the Gay men were Only with each other and Did no such acts and Had Believe in the one true God Paul and Many others would not condemn gays and or God wouldn't either. You know Leviticus is Voided because Jesus did away with the old laws meaning we can eat shellfish and or touch pigs and such, So all of Leviticus we shouldn't even bother practicing these laws today even if we are don't cherry pick what we should obey. Btw Thank you all for reading this and thank you for that lovely comment God bless You all.

PUBLIC NOTICE!!! Please don't feed the troll. If you engage him, he will say: "I'm just here to discuss the literature with you. I'm not a religious person. According to the literature what is Christ like is what's rejected by religious people for not following their religious laws. I find no fault with the LGBT whatsoever. What have they done? What say you?" Then no matter what you say, no matter what scriptures you provide, all he will do is spout a bunch of heretical nonsense to bring you down to his level.

The problem is that religion encourages people to stop thinking for themselves. Believers follow their interpretation of what's in a book, or just accept the opinion of somebody in a pulpit without looking into the matter themselves. The Bible clearly has passages that are anti-gay. It also has passages about love and acceptance. You can make it say what you want to say. Fortunately the speaker here has chosen to say something that is not filled with hate and prejudice. Personally I prefer the approach of throwing the Bible in the bin and working out how people should behave based on the harm they decrease or increase.

"The Bible clearly has passages that are anti-gay". That's what many modern preachers would like you to think. I would say that there's one passage that on the surface of it appears that way but if you look at it carefully, the resemblance is only superficial. Preaching about a supposed consistent condemnation in the Bible is a recent interpretation that sneaked into the church about 60 years ago. Rather than throwing the Bible away, it's best to use common sense. If some interpretation goes against other very clear messages in the Bible - like not hurting other people - then it should raise alarm bells to tell you to reevaluate your interpretation.

God created from the beginning a male and female while some of his reasoning has merit, it's based on a false premise, the scriptures are very clear that this behavior is unacceptable in the OT and NT those who practice such behavior won't be included in the Kingdom of Heaven

In the early church, their scriptures told them that the uncircumsized would not be included in God's kingdom. For centuries, Christians read in their scriptures that the Jews were cursed. For centuries, Christians read in their scriptures that slay-very was acceptable. For centuries, Christians believed that non-reproductive secs was a mortal sin and read that into their scriptures. Not only do we no longer read our Bibles that way but we think these long-held views are immoral. Only for the last 70 or so years have Christians read into their scriptures that homoxesuality is a sin. If we could overturn centuries of tradition and now see it as immoral, why will we not overturn a mere 70 years of tradition and see it as immoral? Wake up to the harm you are doing. The one who needs to repent is you.

What is the posture of a parent who opposes homosexuality (because it is clearly against our design) and yet loves their child? It seems based on the presentation ((37-40:40), the parent MUST endorse and MUST affirm and accept. Citations of stats of pro-homosexual groups regarding self-harm seems very self-serving. Yes, there is shame and guilt because our conscience says it is wrong and there should be shame then a thing is wrong. A drunk driver who kills someone SHOULD feel shame... and they will experience wanting to self-harm. Is the answer really to accept and affirm driving drunk? Not helpful.

Of course God welcomes all of ‘us sinners’ but I think his message of chastity before marriage and thereafter will be a herder sell to the LGBT community than the traditional one man one woman community…time will tell… by their fruits you will know them.

Nonsense the church is doing what it should be doing accepting the repentant sinner and rejecting the unrepentant sodomite from their midst. Beware of false teachers...
