Great presentation!!! I've suffered from a severe panic disorder for roughly 40 years, and I found this very informative. Unfortunately, this video is over 5 years old, so you probably won't see this comment.

Dr L's info has GOT to be the BEST I've EVER heard on how to deal with panic attacks. It's BRILLIANT! And so logical! As a first responder this is pure gold. It's going to help a lot of people. Thank you!

Very interesting talk. I suffered from panic disorder for many years. When it first started in high school, I would have a dozen panic attacks a day. I was always pale as a ghost and sweating and couldn't focus in school as a result. I knew exactly why it was happening -- I was scared of being sick, and being embarrassed and mocked if i vomited-- and it led into a kind of cascading cycle. I eventually had to drop out of school, it was too much for my system to handle. Doug's explanation is similar to what I had come to conclude. Learning the biological mechanism helps, even if it doesn't prevent the attacks, you at least know that your life is not in danger, which can reduce its intensity. I got over them by way of healthier living and practicing detachment. I was too attached to how people would view me, which made me fear being attacked by the lion, so to speak. Nowadays I'm fine. I only fear getting them at the dentist during an important surgery, so I get a benzo just to make sure it goes smoothly. Luckily for me I feel pretty crappy on them and it's not addictive in the slightest as a result; I'm always looking forward to being back to normal. They do work though, I feel like I can't possibly panic when I use them.

I think food can be a significant factor in stress and anxiety, since most animal foods are considered inflamatory, thus raising cortisol, thus alertness, like with cafeine. Also high (animal) fat foods will be more likely to result in extra usage of cafeine, to deal with the brain fog and lack of energy uptake from the cells. I've recently started using a water filter in a few weeks drinking unfiltered water might get me as anxious as drinking green tea now.

Used to be on that too. Info and therapy helped, but you should also try Rhodiola. Helped lower my constant state of high cortisol/adrenaline from having bad anxiety. When I first started taking it had the same neutralizing effects of benzo's without bad cognitive effects

first I would like to thank you for these webinars, they are real helpful.I have suffered from panic attack from 2011 until now .During that time they had affected my life negatively. I couldn't study as usual, nor behaving as normal.I had visited religious men and psychiatrists and sycholoanalists. They diagnosed my symptoms according to the psychological analyst test and given me anti-depression and anxiety medicine but they didn't work as I had expected.

exercise is critical to this condition....you need a healthy outlet to get out your emotions...that is exercise...and stay away from processed foods. Eat real food (plant or animal, yes I said animal), avoid processed foods, get enough rest, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, cut back or eliminate caffeine and other stimulants if your sensitive, AND MAKE SURE YOU DO SOME EXERCISE...THAT CAN'T BE STRESSED ENOUGH!
@readytorockithard238 жыл бұрын
Yes....you have to change the chemistry of your body. Nothing rewires your hormones quicker then intense exercise (i follow a bodybuilding routine and hit the gym 4-5 days a week with 20 minutues of cardio after my workouts), a healthey diet (get rid of the processed shit, if your on a budget, literallly eat nothing but sweet potatoes and water if you have too....herbal teas are great too) With the exercise and diet you will sleep like a baby...all your negative energy will be turned into working energy and you fill sleep like a child. Just my two cents though

I have a question for Dr. Lisle, He said that pannic attack is at the top, but how about anxiety so bad that you experience depersonalization or derealization? Can you ask him to explain why some people get more pannic attack and some more depersonalization? How about general anxiety?

Gee Dr McDougall, you were so lucky to have the chocolate option. When I was a kid we had to drink a half pint full cream milk, no additives. And it was sometimes left in the sun for a bit in which case it was no longer chilled. It was disgusting - I hated it. I didn’t have the mindset to refuse to drink it and teachers watched over us to ensure we drank it. I had a (fat) friend who liked it so sometimes she’d drink some of mine for me. Or I’d try and pour it surreptitiously into the garden though I had to be careful as it didn’t disappear quickly. I don’t know what would’ve happened to me if I’d been caught; the strap perhaps. I never was. The school milk scheme was dumped a few years later.

being a person who suffered from anxiety and panic attacks for as long as I can remember, the best thing I ever did was take Dr Tim Noakes's advice and give up white starches and grains. I completely understand what Dr Mcdougal is saying but the situation is not as simple as that, white starches and white sugar for depression is like being on a cocaine drip. Depression and the anxiety go away because of over stimulation, ask anyone who suffers from 'anxiety related depression', the stimulants like coffee always calm them (and me) down. When these people start eating red meat or fish every day they get better and feel more natural. It is completely different than being in a constant state of stimulation, it feels much more "natural". I don't want to argue with the "starchivores" but for the love of god please don't subscribe to this "one diet fits all philosophy", everybody can't be eating the same way.
@anselmmathieu75197 жыл бұрын
Sourav Sarkar i cant argue with youre subjective experience, but i do believe that there's more or less one diet that fits it all, of course sensitivites etc. have to be adjustwd individually, but we still are one species. you wouldn't feed one cat meat and the other starch would you? we all have such a similiar genetic makeup that i find it highly unlikely that some of us afe designed to live on starch,and the others on protein and fat. have you tried eating mcdougall's way or have you eaten starch as well as fats and animal products?

I recently bought "The Starch Soltion" in German and was a little bit confused about the title... it is called "The High-Carb-Diet" in Germany, but I guess there would be way better ways to call it in German because Stärke (starch) also means strength ;) and also High Carb is not German either, so why even change the name ??
@erdmaennchen828 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same. The title wasn't a good choice in my opinion. It sounds like it is just another diet trend (in the sense of common speech). It's the opposite of what it is about.
@mangoauthority28978 жыл бұрын
The privilege is to have the book translated anyway. To whatever they change the name hope they do not change the content. Some populations do not have it translated.

Mango Authority You're right of course, but I was just afraid that the title might send the wrong message to those who don't know what the book is about. I honestly wouldn't have picked up a book with such a title if I had not known the English version before :D

look for systemic hormone imbalances, amino acid transport function, food intolerances and poor diet, unresolved psychological issues.. would help to lower your dose, but you may truly benefit on being on them even at a low dose

You know what i think would be really cool? if everyone who eats potatoes and starch post under this comment your BMI and how many ounces/pounds of starch you eat per day. i’m hearing we can eat as much starch as we like? i like around 2500 calories of purple sweet potatoes at a time, especially the ones with white skin. God basically took a blueberry donut and stuck it in a biscuit. Nice move bro 👊🏼 i’ve over-eaten and gained weight on oats, then on grapes, haven’t tried on beans (too heavy), gained weight on dried fruit (duh). i have my calories pretty much dialed in now. i eat between 1450 and 1800 calories per day with 1650-1700 seeming like a real sweet spot. i can eat what i burn pretty well, i’ve learned to go real heavy on greens like collards, kale, broccoli and squash/eggplant (3lbs daily) to drive out the extra calories that i want to eat recreationally. i’m going along the day, eating perfectly then i find myself in front of some purple sweet potatoes. And i get the idea of overeating on them. i like the 1.5lb japanese sweet potato. i’m thinking overeating on ANYTHING shouldn’t be done. i’m here listening hoping to hear, “if you eat 500-1,000 calories more than you burn but you get them from potatoes, you may gain weight for a week or two but you can keep overeating and the weight will go away after a few months.” i want more sweet potatoes than i can burn. i’m being greedy, seeing if i can take more energy from the universe than i put out. What’s wrong with us? Am i just living with that wanting? i’m down for it : seems to be in the game. And if over eating is always a no-go, i’m just going to have to prepare beforehand for a day where i PLAN to eat 3,000 calories from sweet potatoes. Looking foreward to THAT heavy 😇 My guess is i’ll have to be in a caloric deficit for a few days to clear those extra calories. So. BMI? How much starch are you putting away? Pounds and ounces. Love you guys 😘

Like the technique for anxiety attacks. I find exercise good for many issues. However, the Mother-in-law jokes are outdated. Many children would not be raised in a home, if it weren't for the 'mother-in-laws' stepping in when the mother or father is irresponsible. Find a new target for your example, Doc, stick with the animal examples.
