Definitely sounds better with the longer pushrods. We should probably do that with all the cams on pedestal mount heads since we're changing the base circle enough to lower the lifter preload. The behind the scenes footage is nice, but it's not gonna be for everybody.

Sounds great! Can't wait to hear the N-21 in my 1981 Fairmont. I did get the 6.300" pushrods already and I'm running the old school Crane 1.7 rockers with it. I also got the pedestal shims to get the recommended ¾ turn

Old post but.....Did you ever get the N21 installed with the longer pushrods? Are you talking about the Crane 1.7 "cobra" roller rockers? Did you end up needing shims to get it right or quiet? You didn't say which heads you were using GT40, E7, GT40P, or whatever....

@Patrick F I have the motor all assembled ready to drop in. I'm rebuilding the C4 transmission right now before I drop it all in. I'm running the 3 bar gt40 heads and the cobra 1.7 pedestal mount rockers. I shimmed them appropriately to get 3/4 turn or as close to it as possible per Andersons recommendation.

@@92coupelx I actually bought a pair of GT40 iron F3ZE heads way back and still have them in boxes.. The part # on the box says M-6049-L303 assembled GT40 "HIGH FLOW" cylinder heads from Ford Motorsport....That's what they actually advertised them as Lol....They are still fresh in the box-along with the Cobra 1.7's. I have an embarrassing amount of GT40 stuff stored everywhere. I have my high school '86 GT with the absolutely flattest top pistons...I bought a nice shortblock before my 2nd deployment.....it was disappeared along with my Pace Car....Nobody wanted to give me bad news over there. I was asking about the N-21 because I'm going to basically build a Cobra Motor with the H.O. cam at first, then install either the N-21 or possibly the N-41 or N-51HR since I'll cut the pistons regardless. I have several NOS kit a Dry and Wet kit. I really want to run my NOS BIGSHOT Plate Kit that fits the '93 Cobra intake....if I blow it up....I have a 351 GT40 Lower intake LOL...I love the Fox Fairmonts they are really cool....Let me know about the cams characteristics and how the rockers sound...

I had that problem with the rpm not passing 5200rpm. found 2 problems. spark plug wire #3 was burned and arcing, fixed that and a little better but now wouldn't pass 5400. Next found my cap and rotor (MSD)to have been worn a little more than it should have been. Replaced them and now all good. Hope you find the problem. Sounds good also.

I had the same issue with my first transmission in my 91 gt shifting to second. No grinding, and would go if you yanked it hard enough. Went into gear sometimes very smoothly. It turned out that second gear synchro was completely missing and the gear had been chewed up pretty bad. Main shaft and counter shaft also had broken teeth. 3rd gear exploded.

How are you running a .542 lift on a stock HO engine? How are you getting valve clearance with stock pistons? Also, I would love to hear what this cam sounds like with dumps.

Old post I know.....Valve lift does not effect PTV clearance. When the intake valve opens up the piston is already moving down. I talked to Comp Cams and asked why they say that...he said "it's just for marketing purposes because high lift usually accompanies large duration and more chance to not clear" Just for reference I've run ,575 lift on stock engines and cleared no problem.

Brew2l I blew my hood off during a test drive and effed up my cowl! 😭 Hoping the football trick will fix it. 🤞 But im still grinding away on this car! Motor rebuilt, new break booster, and 255lph fuel pump. She is driving amazing and very strong. Having a irratic voltage on the back of the alternator once the engine gets hot causing an awful idle surge. (Vacuum lines all plugged minus pcv,fpr,booster) Need a new speedo cable w VSS, new balancer and seal for the trans output shaft and this idle surge fixed and she will be ready for longer trips. Im gonna drive the hour to come let you see it one day. Once I get the funds to finish the last few things of course. 😄 You should come up to PC drag strip some time. Is there a track out your way that allows street tires to run? They dont here anymore. 😭 Love the content as always keep it up!

Hey brew2l. I have a question for anyone that can answer. Could a vacuum leak hide a car being cammed. I've had my car for about 4 years and I've done tune ups but I've pretty much left all the factory vacuum lines on my 94 cobra in place until last week. I'm moving towards a dedicated drag car and I deleted and plugged all the old vacuum lines. (Found alot that were leaking pretty severely) and did a base idle reset and my car went from idling at 1k to comfortably at 7 to 800. The only thing is now its chopping like its cammed. I went through and regaped my plugs. Got new cap rotor and wires just in case it was a missfire but its very consistent in the idle and it isn't down on power or fuel efficiency. So could it have been cammed when I bought it and we just never noticed. Me and a few other fellow mechanics have looked at it and the only other option is the distributor went out and messed up timing at the exact moment I did all this. I have smoke tested it since and there's no leaks and im going to check timing in about an hour. Any insight would be helpful

Yeah for sure its definitely harder to hear a cam lope at a higher rpm idle. When I first got my car everyone swore it was cammed. Nah it was just idling like crap lol. Well after I rebuilt it I know for a fact its cammed lol. But alot of things can make the car have idle issues other than vacuum leaks. Even inconsistent voltage from the alternator can mess the idle up. Missfires and being down cylinders can make it sound lopey. Try checking your voltage at your harness ground, orange wire behind the intake manifold and the firewall. No sure way to know without pulling it imo. Most of the common cams bring on the power around 3500 rpms and on. My car goes beserk once I am wot at 3500 rpms. How about yours or does it seem like a steady rpm gain when giving her the juice? It seems like its idling strong and im definitely not having charging issues but I will double check that specific wire today as well. The only explanation I can come up with at this point is either my distributor is going out and causing a miss or its going out and messing with my timing. Either that or I've been cammed for 4 years lol. We always noticed a bit of lope at 1k but you won't really notice alot of chop that high. Thanks for the tips ill hit you up if I need any more advice

@@slowbra94 yeah for sure it could very well have been camed and never know it haha. But yeah I dont mean charging issues but voltage issues. Irregular volts up and down from the back of the alternator, well that feeds the injectors and can cause idle issues. The alternator doesnt really have the ability to change your timings once its locked down. Only the ecu can do that, but yeah a bad TFI module on the side of the distributor can cause all kinds of idle and driving issues. Might need to give the idle reset from brew2ls videos a shot again. Then make sure to drive it so the computer can relearn. But its hard to diagnose issues over text so if it keeps causing you fits hit me up on pm. Also if you think you have a missfire or alternator issue then pull 1 plug wire at a time while the car is running and see if you can hear a noticeable cylinder drop. If so then each cylinder is working. Hope you get it figured out. 🤞
