Dr. Drew is basically right. But. To keep things in perspective. In my case I've been on a low dose of an opiod drug for more than 10 years under close medical supervision for stenosis and moderate to serve arthritis in my lower back. It effectively mitigates the pain [does not eliminate it] and does not narcotize me. My point is that opiods are not all bad if used appropraitely and under medical supervision.

I am a victim of the “opioid crisis”. I took it responsibly for years.. started weaning after getting my new hip. I was able to get down to less than 10% of prior dosage. Now…pain is back, and nobody will prescribe. Tylenol does nothing alone, and my g-i doctor found an ulcer and forbids NSAIDs. (And I did get pain relief, and I got dosage down once pain was alleviated.) Activity also increased as pain decreased. I am 75 years old. My brain doesn’t work while pain is up, but I am sharper mentally when it is controlled. When I need less, I take less. WHO should be in charge of managing my health?????? My doctor and I, or the state???

Not sure of your diet, but get off all sugar. Which includes flour and other starchy grain products. Eat fish and or take fish oil. Go low oxalate, which can inflame and aggravate joints and tissues. Keto, if possible, for at least 6 weeks, may help you situation. Don't forget your electrolytes during low carb/keto. Very important.

Dr Drew is not correct about pain. I’m fortunate to be allergic to opioids, however, I can receive “homeopathic” type care. Back and neck pain are debilitating. Prolotherapy or & PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) can significantly help ligaments and muscle pain. However many that are not fortunate cannot receive this treatment. Also LDN (Low dose naltrexone ) A compounded & inexpensive drug can significantly help patient with chronic pain. If I weren’t as fortunate to be able to receive these types of treatment and i listened to your interview, I would reach for antidepressants at the very least. Where is your empathy ? I do agree our public health is in a crisis. Dr. Everett C Koop received prolotherapy for back pain.
