Strange collaboration but interesting and certainly off the beaten track, I wonder when and how they first met, I guess in the 70's when they played a gig together? Its obvious they bonded through an interest in this slightly odd ball theme. Hugh constantly looks for affirmation from the encyclopaedic Clarke. Their joint love of the subject matter shines through though which is excellent. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised about the interest as they were born in the same year and both went through this slightly trashy period of post war British /American pop culture together. The bottom line though is that John was never much of a singer and I'm not sure about the numbers they have chosen either as I find them a bit bland and unmelodic. I wouldn't buy the album and would only go to see a gig of there's if it was possible to listening to them after in conversation, John is particularly knowledgeable about the era and as witty as ever.
