Just learning that we lost Dr John today. Broken hearts across the land. Never be another..... :(

He's boogalooing among the milky way, I saw him several times, he often played Club West in Santa Fe, NM, early 80's. Anybody see him there. Flora Purim also played there, though not w/Dr. John--the Night Tripper.

Yes - never be another - but don't let it break your heart.

Happy Birthday indeed Roscoe. One of the coolest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting once. God knows how many times I was lucky enough to see him perform. In a town full of the best drummers in the world he stood out as a drummer and a person.

@gamoonbat haha :) yeah he used to play guitar with Prof Longhair.. that story about being shot in the hand, he always refers to as an "altercation" LOL :) I met Mac several times in the early 90's after he recorded "Going back to New Orleans", and traveled with the band once when they recorded "Television" as I was dating his then drummer Freddy Staehle.

It's nice 2 c the doctor play the guitar although he had always played both he was originally more of a guitar player that a pianist. Till he got his index finger blown off in a struggle over a gun, he then played more keyboards. But he never completely quit guitar as this track shows still could play a mean axe. .

@Trae3ab12 жыл бұрын
yes.... He was a session and touring guitarist for about 15-20 years before he took on the persona of dr john. He got his finger shot almost clean off and it got reattached. unfortunately, it stifled his guitar playing significantly. Still a great guitarist nonetheless. You can see he really has to work to play it.
