We’re honored to welcome Dr. John McDougall back to the podcast for another hearty discussion.
Dr. McDougall was on the podcast on Episode 151, and we took a look at his storied life and career as a pioneering physician and talked about his discoveries that informed his unwavering practice of a starch-based diet.
In this episode, Rip dives in on very specific topics to get his opinions on procedures like mammograms and colonoscopies, bone density scans, blood pressure medications and other pills, as well as treatments for hormone-related diseases like male pattern baldness, endometriosis, body odor, bad breath, and more!
Dr. McDougall has been in practice for almost 50 years and, if there’s everyone who has earned the right to state their researched opinions, it’s him. Yes, he has strong opinions about modern medicine, but his point is clear and simple. So many of these screenings, procedures and medications can be diminished or even eradicated with PLANTS, and more specifically, a starch-based diet.
He doesn’t want his patients to undergo treatments that are harmful, painful, and expensive - when so many of the solutions are simple - It’s the FOOD.

The reason I turned vegan from vegetarian in early Oct, 2021 is due to Doctor McDougall. I heard his lecture on the benefits of a starch based diet. And then soon enough I understood the reason not ro take dairy and extra oil. Now at 66 I run long distances and coach tennis without any fear of heart and leg damage!

I also have little to worry about at age 54 being on the Mcdougall program for 6 years now. I could get my LDL lower and get more exercise, though, but I have an exercise bike where can go for weeks or months of regular exercise and it's very convenient.

Starches are amazing foods, especially grains..They give energy, protein, fats everything you need..no headaches, joint pains, fatigue, skin issues, digestive issues..all health conditions show positive results with starches..they are easy to cook, prepare, store, buy in bulk, not expensive..they keep you full...just amazing how we have been mislead into thinking meat and eggs are important for people..

This was epic. I have followed both of you for years and totally agree with the diet recommendations . But it’s both the unnecessary medical procedures and the medication discussion that I want to applaud you for bringing to the forefront. I’m 85, take only thyroid ( only because I had a thyroid ablation some years ago) and I am amazingly healthy. I’m a nurse practitioner and worked in a busy ER for many years and can’t tell you how many people came in with literally bags full of meds. They took a drug for one thing and 2 others to counteract the effects of the first drug and so on. I’m convinced that those meds were causing the great majority of their symptoms and certainly were not curing or in most cases, even controlling the underlying disease. But people consider giving up meat and dairy too extreme. Yet open heart surgery, dialysis, and a lifetime of pills and misery are somehow acceptable trade offs.

If I hadn’t had a routine colonoscopy at 56 I’d likely be dead. For many years of my life I ate the standard American diet, but had embraced a vegetarian and then vegan diet for around 20 years before my colonoscopy. I was in shock when a golf ball sized tumor was found in my transverse colon. It was large and very precancerous. The discovery of this tumor before it metastasized was life saving. Surgery removed it and I’m healthy and fine and living my best life on whole, plant foods. I believe that colonoscopy saved my life.

I had my first colonoscopy in the past year and I have not felt right since. But I haven't complained to the doctors because I really felt like they were using me as a educational opportunity without informing me of that. They taught me they don't tell me the full truth when I would have been glad to have done that volitionally. I would have trusted the hospital more and been more likely to use their services if they were honest with me.

You’re a rebel now if eating carbs esp potatoes or rice. 😉😂 Check farmers online or markets for any selling direct to public incl potatoes and even oats. Tip: sml local farmers here say costs to be ‘certified organic’ are high in Canada but they’re open to visits by clients to see they’re free of chemicals. I trust them more then many big certified growers allowed to use ‘organic’ fertilizer/pesticide (in Cda) that many react to. Husb and I also support sml biz. Many do also raise chickens, pigs etc but know our views and respectful as we are to them. I’m more worried about pollution to air, water, land and therefore weather from big corp and mass consumerism of cheap products incl packaging. Very little recycled. It’s great Plant Strong seems to use more earth friendly packages for some products. I get it’s not easy or viable. Hopefully better options will be avail soon for good food cos like yours.✌️🌱🌎

With an unbeaten 100-Mile American Record for more than 5 years, ultra endurance athlete Zach Bitter just outdid himself on August 25th, 2019. He crushed the 100-Mile World Record, setting a 6:48-mile pace and besting the previous world record by nearly 10 minutes. As a professional endurance athlete, Zach is notable for his low-carb, high-fat, animal-based lifestyle. He first transitioned to the ketogenic diet during an off-season, and immediately felt his sleep, energy, and recovery improve.

His appearance concerns me. He looks and sounds weak for only being 75. My mom is 87, gone through cancer, chemo, broken shoulder and she looks fantastic. I believe there are a lot of health benefits to a no fat, meat diet but the weight loss makes a lot of people look unhealthy.

1:08:50 it is about the food. It's being a walkering vat of vegetable matter that is literally fermenting, literally routing, literally turning into foul smelling gases. Meat is digested way up in the gi tract! 😁

If Dr McDougall's diet is so healthy then why on earth has he gone from looking relatively healthy a few years ago to looking decrepit? Also why did a doctor I used to so respect not see right through the evil of the response to Covid and the obsession with getting MRNA jabs into every arm?

There are multiple cultures who eat this way - for example the Blue Zones. The Irish lived off of potatoes for decades and little more.

That's not uncommon. I've seen it over & over. Younger people simply don't have that respect for older, more accomplished people like Dr. McDougal. It is what it is.

I was a Hardcore vegetarian with supplementations for 8 years with worsening health issues. So I ended up doing a 180 going to an animal based diet, got rid of the grains beans most vegetables most fruits and within 3 months I started feeling better. Have been eating animal base now for a couple years feel fantastic all my health markers and blood tests are excellent now. Vegetarian vegan and plant-based diets are not for everybody! Actually after digging into how humans evolved humans did not evolve as vegans or vegetarians! They evolved is mainly meat eaters with occasional tubers greens nuts fruits. Every vegetarian I know to stay healthy has to take a lot of supplements that is not a correct diet.

@@User107D any difference in satiety and ultimately on weight loss between starch based and animal based?

My favorite part!
@User107D
@User107D Жыл бұрын
@@rachelbrondel5858 depends what you eat - if you eat clean home-made meats and good amounts of strach like rice, potatoes ect. then satiety is great. Same on plant-based diet, if you eat those strach plus high protein foods like chickpeas, beans, lentils you are feeling full. The thing is everybody is different when comes to digestion of certain foods and one diet cannot fit all humans as much as those vegan doctors want to cuz bussiness. Humans are ment to eat everything so combination is the key depending of your specific genetic makeup.

I just wish McDougall would stick to talking about the food. I have to turn it off when he starts his tirade about "climate change". None of Al Gore's predictions came true. It's all BS. CO2 is what plants breathe in.
@annemccarron2281

So, 99% of climatologists who spend their lives studying this sort of thing have no idea what they are talking about. Is that correct?
@markbarbdearman2157
@markbarbdearman2157 2 ай бұрын
@@annemccarron2281Yeah…and it’s not 99%. Do research from both sides of the argument and partake of some critical thinking about this matter…it’s not what you think, just from one side. There are just as many scientist & climatologists supporting the opposite of climate change…it’s been cyclical for millennia’s.
