I love all of the conversations on this channel, but I think this one was super interesting because Ludwig is very good at honing in on exactly what you're talking about. He doesn't want to half-understand your point and move on, he wants to make sure that if there's something in there that sounds weird to him, he's going to get to the bottom of it, and because you guys think differently but are both working to untangle any knots it makes the point both more accessible and more precise, which I think is great. The perfect productive tension between two different approaches to the same goals.

As someone with ADHD I have realised that in order to get anything done, I rely on the flow state and the "one pointedness of the mind" as you put it, that comes with it. I used to think of this simply as "I need stress to get anything done" which is of course a very poular thought in the ADHD space. The problem I had which really derailled my life was that I found that the lower limit for "enough stress to do the thing" kept getting higher and the upper limit of "too much stress to do the thing because I'm overwhelmed" began to fall, untill they crossed over, and there was no space in between to function and I couldn't do the simplest tasks without getting really overwhelmed. This then became its own meta-source of anxiety which compounded things because the thought of my work giving me anxiety was itself giving me anxiety. I would love to see a video on this, because although I'm doing better now, I never really dealt with this problem.

This conversation connected a lot of dots that have been floating around in my head for months now. Questions like how much effort should I be putting into life, what do I do when I can't live up to the standards that I set for myself, what do I do when I feel like I've fucked myself by being lazy in the past. I've been ruminating a lot on the difficulty of life and how that relates to the idea of putting in effort without expectations. I think this conversation covers these ideas from a really intriguing angle. The majoras mask analogy is really powerful to me, it felt like everything was building up so this sentiment could be expressed in that way

I'm 27, so around same age as Ludwig. I also worry about stuff like he does. I work as a 3D character animator. I love it so much. I'm also overwhelmed at times by all the different creative projects I want to do, I want to pour my heart into, I like writing and I wanna write stories, I want to make independent productions on my own, blah blah blah. It scares me, this idea, that not all of my ambitions and designs and passion projects and desires will be fulfilled. I don't want to let my ideas down. I don't want to give half of myself. I want to give my entire creative self to this existence, but also I'm just a person and I face burn out and I have to work on non-passion project things to survive and I also enjoy that too. But I do know that I'm a passionate person; I won't let things slip if I really want them to exist for me. Of course in general, I wouldn't like to neglect the things that I want to do. But it's also not up to me to write every detail of my life and have it go justly accordingly to plan. At some level, I have to sacrifice what I want so that what can be can be. A lot of the great things in my life now were completely out of my control and scope before they got here, and so did my desires adjust thereafter. Keep a log of your past goals and plans, and revisit it from time to time to see if it holds true. Even for small personal projects, I end up dropping most of them. I outgrew them!

This talk really inspired me to set an hour aside to get some things sorted on my day off. Really made me feel a lot better about relaxing the rest of the day, which I would have done anyways. Thanks a lot Dr.K and Ludwig 😁

You have no idea how good it made me feel to hear you, someone I look up to and view as a person who takes their work very seriously and is admired by a lot of people for it, say that you ignored your work to play dota all day. That really opened my eyes to the fact that these things are normal and I'm not lesser for succumbing to the same

I honestly can't express how insightful these streams with Ludwig have been. The other guests are also helpful and interesting to see, but the "mundane" side is something that kinda falls to the side for many of them. Ludwig seems like a dude who mostly has it all together in a way I'd like to believe I too do - meaning he has very similar problems. That last bit of conversation about Majora's Mask and day 1-2-3 suddenly made it click for me as to how I can enjoy my job more (it's pretty inconsistent as of currently). The way they spoke about streamers not getting breaks - the exact feeling/problem I also face as a student (and at work). They made me realise that I'm currently not cut out for that. They also made me very hopeful towards my mental improving after uni because of this. Hands down the best conversation (for me in my situation) in a long while.

I realized something about the flow state a while ago, flow state I always find is a state of comfortability, thats not saying what your doing isn't challenging but if you can see a path through it you can get into a flow state. Two examples are writing and fighting, when you write if your not well versed on your material then you feel lost or its really slow going, if i research and research and research and then start writing i can write for days, all the paths of thought I was building up comes out in a flow. An important note is that flow state doesn't mean things will be good, that comes with skill, flow is more a state of mind. Fighting is another example, when facing an opponent that you don't fear but don't look down on your brain can get comfortable, seeing paths for attacks and defence, you might still lose to an opponent thats not in flow state if they are just better but still you will make flow state. Being able to turn on and off flow state i think is an important skill cause it lets you do shit faster, and we all need some extra time

I've been a viewer for many years and the part I always enjoyed most is Dr Ks experience with the eastern religions/philosophys. I understand that "Dr KS guide to Buddhism" sikt coming soon, but one video I would love is a Dr K approved reading list to learn more about eastern thinking etc. It's so a category that is so full with humbug that it's really hard to navigate what is good and bad source material.

While the streams, meditations, and the knowledge and insight HAVE been helping. I still feel I haven't had that switch happen in my brain, yet? I still have floods of thoughts, impulses I feel I can't control, and times of running away and self destruct only for me to regret it later once I have calmed down. Probably bipolar. Thank you Dr. K for investing your time in the well being of those of less mental stability.

hi! this sounds like me (with pbd) so ill offer what has flicked a big switch for me. i started doing simple breathing practises, then the vim hof method and then my favourite which is the breathing method to release dmt. im not exactly sure what it does or why it works. maybe give these a try couple of times. i have bpd and my symptoms have lessened greately for the day i do the practise and its beginning to affect the next days too when i do it with intention and properly. i wish good things to you, maybe this helps you

@@zodsi I will research those methods and see if any work, on the shit life syndrome stream a couple days ago, I did the meditation section at the end for the first time and along with other chatters in the chatroom I noticed I began to cry, as others stated. I googled and found it is normal and just means I'm releasing emotional tension. While in the moment it works, so quickly I can hear, or experience, or even think of something that can quickly spiral and all of a sudden im in a dark dungeon until some other thought or experience takes me out. I'm always self aware, but the shit just happens. I believe more exercise, or pursuing a hobby could help release all of the build up shit in me so I can kind of just "ring" it out of me like a wet towel. I personally don't believe in medication, I just have to take things a day at a time, sometimes an hour at a time. Thanks for the advice and insight.

Become comfortable with the chaos. Instead of trying to "fix" your thoughts, and "cure" yourself, accept that your thoughts exist. They're trying to help you. Don't force them down or away, look at them objectively. Before long, your mind will learn that you respect it's opinion, and won't need to attack you with thoughts to get attention. Like training a dog or a child, if you fight it... it will learn to fight back.

35:00 WHAT?! In school I would always get marked down points on essay questions because I would just answer in a few sentences that are straight to the point and accurately answer the question instead of wasting everybody's time coming up with paragraphs of word vomiting in past experiences of mine that have nothing to do with the actual question. Especially because I was in honors classes that expected you to do extra work for the sake of extra work, that was a single-handedly why my grades dropped in school and I stopped caring about it as much. After I got my first job I ended up just dropping out and getting my GED ahead of when I would have graduated anyway. I had done the calculations while I was wasting away a class and realized how much money I would be making
