Dr M threatens to quit after rude reception by taxi drivers

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he is prepared to resign as Prime Minister during a dialogue session with taxi drivers over "preferential treatment" given to e-hailing service Grab on Sunday.
A meeting by Dr Mahathir with members of the taxi drivers association In Langkawi, Kedah was disrupted when it turned chaotic due to the rude behaviour of some drivers who shouted and walked out of the room in disagreement with the premier's view on Grab.

I just drive GRAB for 2 months... I managed to take almost 300++ customers... 99.9% customers complain about Klang Valley cab drivers..... 1. RUDE 2. Robbery 3. NOT USING METTER 4. Cab Not Clean.... etc.... what this people did with TUN was simple examples (RUDE)

Generally speaking some taxi drivers can be really rude. If they want their problems to be resolved then they should listen to what the Prime Minister has to say too. Anyway I would rather the use the services of GRAB/UBER. Much cheaper and more convenient. If they want changes then they should change their attitude.

@William Deepthinker The Prime Minister is doing his best to help them. I had many bad experience taking a cab. At times they take a longer route knowing there are shorter routes. GRAB/UBER is much sought after by the Malaysian public as they are more realiable. I believe there shouldn't be any monopoly in providing public transport services. If your services are good then people would come to you.

You get paid for what you deserved. And your attitude showed how much you deserved. It's the public who reject you not the government, talk to the public, we are the boss. Some people still go to find tailors to buy suits because the traditional skill is worth the extra money, ask yourself why people want to pay more just for you? Today I asked a taxi to send me home. The old guy try to charge rm15. I say how about a no. it's not far from here. he say 12 then. i say how about 8. he say no. he will not be fetching (rudely) i say fine. i call grab and its just 6 ringit. with a better condition car and a more friendly driver. the old guy just stare at me. they dont have meters and trying to overcharge. he doesnt want to fetch us (the customer) but still wanna show disatisfaction when grab came. its their own personal attitude problem. stop pampering these taxi drivers

for over 20 years taxi drivers in seremban did not use meter ( idk now), tbh i do not know what was the exact fare till today. 20 over years we were silence. We ask cabbies to be fair to us, the customers. Now they are angry because we the customers get the fare share? I noticed the fair is a huge difference... From aeon big subang to ss15 grab only charge me rm4 Wei......huge margin difference

This is the problem I face with the taxi driver in Kuala Lumpur,1)They don't know where a certain hospital is, can you believe? The hospital is just 5km,2)I gave RM20 for RM16, Trip, the driver didn't have change,3) Dirty filthy taxi ,driver was smoking earlier, the taxi was so smelly,4)Taxi driver who smelt so badly as if he hasn't taken a bath for months.5)Refused to use the meter,6) Take you for for long drive when it was just down the street by making stupid turns,7) Refuse to take passengers.8) Asking personal questions and talking bad of the government of the day.9)Taxi in need of a repair 10) Bangladeshis and Indonesian taxi drivers,who don't know where your streets is.This grab service is really good thing,at least have some competition, because Grab also raised the price for short distance. Thank you, Grab. The power is in customer's hand. I was surrounded by 3 other taxi drivers at my home when I questioned why the taxi driver that sent me to my home did not follow the meter rate. The driver got out and slapped my face and I was overpowered by the 3 other driver so I did not fight back. This happened several years before Grab outside my home. They were teksi drivers from Larkin bus station who form a cartel and monopolise teksi prices, joined as one against customers and charge double to triple of meter rates. Time for their samseng behaviour to go as the public stand as one against them and break them up and support only honest drivers who wants to make an honest living while respecting customers.

Maaf....pandangan peribadi saya kebanyakan pemandu teksi terutamanya di Kuala Lumpur mereka sebenarnya tidak suka membawa/memandu teksi. Tetapi sebab tiada pilihan lain, mereka terpaksa. Mereka lebih sanggup lepak, berkumpul ramai2, bercerita hal2 politik atau apa2 topik sekalipun....malas nak cari pelanggan, sebab kononnya jalanraya sesak... Bila dah lepak sampai hampir satu hari dan tersedar duit tak cukup nak bayar sewa teksi, masa tulah baru menekan pelanggan tanpa menggunakan meter.. Memang bukan semua pemandu teksi bersikap demikian tetapi inilah realitinya. Cuba lihat di KL Sentral berapa banyak teksi yg beratur..walaupun takda pelanggan sanggup tunggu... Kenapalah tak cari pelanggan, gunakan sistem radio teksi..rajinlah cari beberapa trip satu hari...Ini tidak..mereka sanggup tunggu dan beratur berjam2.... saya pelik sikap dan mentaliti mereka... sbb tu bila mereka bersikap kurang ajar pada Tun M, saya tak pelik kerana itulah mereka...sudah terhakis segala nilai2 murni. When i was traveling in KL, i asked a taxi driver where the the bus terminal was and he said there is no bus service or bus stop. I didnt believed him and just follow google map. It was a 5 mins walk from where i was standing. It is the same thing in thailand. They dont like to used meter. A lot of respect for the PM for helping these people. Taxi drivers dose not joint PHD because if they do, they can’t cherry pick passengers anymore. They can’t over-charge their passengers anymore. What if official taxi Malaysia ada their own app..? I was just wondering this to myself. Cs the biggest thing about taxi is that 1. Harga tak menentu, the reason we choose grab is because we book according to the fixed price. 2. Convenience. Taxi drivers akan usually ada dekat hotspots or some, maybe dekat housing area but we're not always there. Takkan you nak expect us to save every taxi driver punya number and request siapa yang paling dekat to pick us up, too much time constrain if you ask me. 3. Nak kata pasal rudeness, this happens to grab drivers as well so, nothing to do much accept providing a simpler way for us, customers to rate them. Not only bad taxi drivers, some good ones deserve recognition too. I think they have all the right to be mad but certainly, there's definitely a way to handle this problem without any fights

It is better to revamp the entire taxi industry as you can see because of many bad examples of public experience that have made public mostly conclude to avoid taxis and go for grab instead. Their own attitude just shows what is the problem and how true it is what public say. Revamp and upgrade all the taxies with better cabs, proper training for taxi drivers and cut out all the bad apples, let people submit bad drivers feedback and they get penalised, mandatory meter and no selection of customers unless they are not operating. Indonesia, thailand can do it, whay excuse that malaysia cannot. They cannot compete not because of unfair regulations but simply because they fail to admit that it is their own failure for years of robbing, intimidating and running taxies mafia style and now no longer all those are working

I was a foreigner studying in KL for 3 years (2014 - 2017). From my experience, most Taxi drivers have always been very rude to us. They dont like using the meter and charge very high fares. They dont have clean cars. As soon as Grab was introduced i didnt think twice of changing to them. Used Grab almost daily for 2 years. Never had a single issue. Drivers are super friendly and the service is 10 times better. If these cab drivers provided good service from the beginning then noone would have wanted to change. In nature if you cant adapt you die. They should stop crying and learn from their mistakes!

I suggest taxi drivers (genuine personally-owned vehicle and permit) to be registered as Grab drivers with the following comprises and conditions: 1. Lower commission charged 10% i/o standard 25% by Grab or any other Hailers, say for period of 5 yrs. 2. No registration fee to be charged to them by Grab for first 2 yrs. 3. Why not just incentivise and then integrate all taxi drivers to change to the Grab system ? If they are looking for their previous big money by ripping off tourist- it's of course a big no ! But if it's to deal with car loans, taxi company policies , government can easily intervene and offer a 1 time incentive to forever put an end to all this. The taxi system should be integrated to follow the Grab innovation, not revert back to the old system which was broken in the first place.

Grab system is actually bad; the driver have to provide their own car but Grab is the one who set the ride prices, of course this is fine if you have the money & is doing Grab as a side job, but for a full-time taxi Driver this is unsustainable, there's not enough money if you set the prices to be the same as Grab's prices, and so they couldn't compete even when they have the same IT system as Grab.

Taxi driver charged me RM30 from sungai wang Park royal hotel to chinatown. I came back with another Taxi using meter only RM10. Now we have Grab and Uber , we dont use Taxi anymore

I'm a student in Malaysia, been studying 4 years and I'm almost done with my course, when I first came to Malaysia there was no uber or grab, only taxi drivers... They used to exploit desperate students by charging whatever they felt like on a very regular basis and since I'm an international and could not speak malay they often used to yell or be extremely rude to me when I told them I didn't understand the language as yet. I've had plenty of encounters with really bad drivers I honestly felt unsafe with, some of which would purposely damage their trip meters to charge the customer whatever they felt like. I think uber and grab are both a blessing. Especially to students who cannot afford to purchase a car. It's helped me way too much and I wouldn't ever want to be using another Malaysian taxi drivers service again.

My first day in KL on 2008 - only have RM50 cash left in my pocket. From KL Central to Pasar Seni (since i dont own gps or ask anybody the guard of whoever) i got a taxi. And charged me RM45. But i noticed he only went around few buildings couple times and drop me off. When i ask why he do that the uncle replied “what do you know, pay and get out”. Provide standardized fixed rate for peak and non peak hours. Not necessarily have to be cheap. Enough for taxi drivers cari makan and good service with affordable price point for consumer. Win-win.

Come one, people in SG also has grab but the usage of normal taxis are still available. They (taxi drivers) only “blame” the government for not doing enough but in the first place, where is your manners (your akhlak) in addressing and responding to this issue? Those drivers who walked out are the same ones who refuse to use meters and charge high rates. They refuse to take short trips. I am asking the Prime Minister to refrain from listening to them, they deserve what the get.
