Worth noting why the study was retracted, according to an FTC settlement agreement, because "the company who made the extract paid a researcher in India to conduct this study, and the authors allegedly falsified the data (weight measurements, treatment arm, trial length). When the original author couldn't get the study published, the company hired two more researchers to write the study results for publication." Not just some methodology or data issues, but absolute outright fraud of the worst kind. Sadly a lot of the skepticism and anti-science noise we see now is because of this outrageous sorts of deceit. It accounts for, presumably / hopefully, a small percentage of papers, but it has an outsized influence on people's perception of science.

coffee is not roasted to 475 degrees! At an internal temp of 455 degrees, it's totally burnt and will burst into flame. If the roaster pulls it out of the oven and the beans are 455, they will taste awful, well... burnt! Medium roasts end up with internal temps of 425 to 435. Darker roasts from 442 to 448 (which are dark enough for most people to taste a burnt taste, as in Charbucks). One thing he is right about though is that the darker the coffee is roasted, the less of the beneficial compounds like chlorogenic acid remain in the bean. Green coffee will have more of coffee's beneficial compounds than even lightly roasted coffee.

If you watch a video as soon as it goes public, sometimes not all features are available. I didn't realize that myself until I uploaded some of my own videos. Even the resolutions are restricted. There's a processing time of hours, sometimes a day or so for longer videos. A video will first unlock only at low resolution and no subtitles and then as the processing completed other resolutions and subtitles unlock over time. As a creator there may be a way around this by uploading and then delaying making them public, but I don't upload enough to know from experience. I just know new videos don't always have everything unlocked, resolution limitations and subtitles being the most obvious (to me). I'm not sure if there's other things restricted until fully processed. On the user side you need both the KZbin processing to finish and then a browser cache refresh. (Usually automatic with a browser reload but not always)

The first dead giveaway should be the freaking headline!!! "Miracle Bean" 🤦♂️ This is supposed to be science?? Let's start by pointing out that coffee "beans" are freaking seeds and NOT BEANS in any fashion other than popular lingo of the lay public. They come out of a fruit, a red berry that is also high in very beneficial polyphenols. To clarify for Nic and Mike and the watchers of this channel; chlorogenic acid is the primary polyphenol found in the seeds of the coffee plant, among others (like basically all plant tissues it contains flavanoids, terpenes, polyphenols, and the like that protect it's cells UV degredation and possibly from things like insect predation). While it is degraded quite a bit by high heat, brewed coffee does retain a fair amount. So much so that, along with the polyphenols in beer, it turns out that coffee and beer contribute the highest amount of polyphenols found in the average American diet. SAD (pun most definitely intended 😉)! The saddest part of all is that for how amazing the effect of these types of molecules are, they will never get funding for proper "human randomized controlled trials" (in the voice of Layne Norton 😉" because the NIH is in too loving a relationship with industry. They both LOVE money and not so much cheap, actionable information to keep the American public from going to the doctor and buying all their "wares" (e.g. pharmaceutical drugs, fancy surgeries, et cetera)🤑. Possible mechanisms for weight loss effects from some of these molecules are, but not limited to, AMPK activation, beiging of white adipose tissue along with increased brown fat metabolism, increasing UCP's (uncoupling proteins), slowing and preventing some amount of sugars during digestion, feeding and modulating the microbiome, blocking TMAO conversion from TMA in the gut...... There's so much to be researched and unpacked, but alas, if it can't be patented or at least trademarked, nothing really ever gets done 😢😖😡. Greed is a hell of a drug 😁

Doctors are not scientists and doctor organizations act as a union not a scientific organization. Doctors do have some science training and a little bit of statistics. They sometimes get additional training and do scientific research such as Peter Attia when he went to the NIH and NIC. Attia's training and experience is apparent when he analyzes studies. Hopefully Dr Oz recommended the bean before the study was the retracted. He should have mentioned the small number of participants, need for replication and potential weaknesses in the the study. In his defense the type of study is generally one the strongest -double blind, placebo controlled. But as I understand it he did push magic elixirs on various shows.

Great video! ZumRX, which is a green coffee bean extract, is use in weight loss and pre workout products. Not for weight loss but for its slower delivery of caffeine for a prolonged energy hit. It’s supposed to deliver not more than 55% of the total caffeine at 1 hour and not less than 80% at 6 hours. Because of its polyphenol content it’s suppose to have nitric oxide inducing benefits and help with lipid metabolism. But there are a number of other extracts and foods that have a good amount of polyphenols in them. Keep up the great content.

Also worth nothing that green tea extract can cause liver failure. People just need to eat less and get off their asses more (not necessarily "move more" or "do exercise") and get up off that sofa, chair, or bed and live a little.

I generally like Dr. Mike, but I recently watched a video where he said their's no evidence seed oils are bad for you and went as far as saying Canola oil is insanely healthy. My goodness, can we get some consistency between credentialed experts?
@PhysionicАй бұрын
I'm doing a deep dive on canola oil soon-ish. I do wish he would offer studies to back his claims - it would make him much more credible. I understand the frustration, Mark.
@siffran123Ай бұрын
Well it is? The problem with certain seed oils can generally be ascribed to it somewhat skewing the omega3/omega6 ratio. The solution is not to eat more lard etc, the solution is to increase the consumption of the seed oils with omega 3 (Olive and Canola/Rape) and increase your fish/algae consumption.
@MrTea7Ай бұрын
@@siffran123 It seems to be a consensus that the Omega 3/6 ratio is critical, also olive isn't Omega 3, flax and a few others are (evening primrose, chia, walnut, hemp, an exotic from Korea called perilla looks to be the richest source) but then folks like Dr. Joel Wallach insist NO oil eat lots of eggs! It's confusing I always like Dr. Andrew Weil he's been around since the 1970s and always a voice of reason and consistent. He's dubious about keto and recommends omega 3 from fish. You can get a supp "algal" oil too.

That Dr. OZ is a dishonest huckster is the perfect and only qualification that Trump needs to nominate him to administer one of the most expensive, complex, and critically necessary bureaucracies in the world.

I I stopped watching "Doctor Mike" a couple years ago, when he (back then an adamant CICO proponent, dont know what he tells now), claimed that he's not only shure its only calories, he knows it for a fact. because "we have read the studies. ALL OF THEM"

Dr. Oz should have talked about dr.Pepper the miracle soda, so that there would have been 4 Dr's in this title. I am sure Dr. Oz would love to get Dr.Pepper money and totally prepared to sacrifice his first born, so this is not far fetched.
