October 2024 the Cherry Pepper Project made its debut at the Outpost in Albuquerque, NM. Here’s a composition entitled, Dr. Pepper.
The Cherry Pepper Project is a tribute to Don Cherry (Choctaw) and Jim Pepper (Kaw and Muscogee Creek), two icons of Native American Jazz. The project celebrates the profound contributions of these Native American Jazz legends, highlighting Don Cherry's unbounded embrace of music from every corner of the world and Pepper's unique integration of Native American music into jazz. Delbert hopes the project will resurface interest in their music, and their close friendship and influence on one another. Dr. Pepper was composed in homage of these extraordinary players and composers, preserving their legacy and the rich history of jazz. The project will feature members of the Delbert Anderson Quartet along with some extraordinary guest artists.
