Dr. Peter Kreeft-a leading Catholic apologist, philosophy professor, and author of over 100 books-delivered the commencement address at Franciscan University of Steubenville on May 14, 2022. Dr. Kreeft told graduates to be on the lookout for 10 lies of contemporary culture, urging them to instead “go forth and preach the truth, the good news in both word and deed.”

Very good words indeed. I'm a Protestant and always enjoy the wise thoughts of many a Catholic brother. I would add one more lie (it is perhaps implied in some of the 10 he mentioned): You are your own person. Paul reminds us in1 Cor. 6:19 that we are NOT our own. The lie that we belong only to ourselves is pervasive. Indeed I struggle with it! Anyway, be blessed all.

Kreeft's emphasis on "essential nature" is great. His references to Apple and Microsoft are outstanding. I wonder what the students in his audience thought, since they have grown up in the era when computers & smartphones are in everyone's hands, not just a small tiny few who are technogeeks, or going back further, no such things in anyone's hands. These students have grown up in an era when Jobs and Gates were lauded as heroes and geniuses, rather than the con men they were/are. He's also bang-on about satire. 20 years ago I wrote satire. Today, I can't do it. Reality has become so inverted that satire can't find a place to aim. I'd suggest this hasn't happened without conscious plan by people who operate entertainment and "news" media businesses, and their lackeys who hold "elected" (ha ha ha, more like fixed) offices.
