This poor man,how can a person humiliate another that way. Pure cruelty and I believe that the instigator of such a plot should go to prison. A long prison sentence and penalties that make fraud distasteful may deter from this happening to another person.

David absolutely knew it was all a scam but he enjoyed thinking he had a woman like 'Maria' and that he was going to be rich. People pay other people for all kinds of weird things. I personally wouldn't pay anyone for therapy. I wouldn't pay for plastic surgery. David was paying for a dream and enjoying it.
