I feel so sorry for the daughter, especially since she once had a good relationship with her mother. I can't imagine not being able confide in my mom.

I'm 58 and have never had a good relationship with my mother. She always treated me like a sometime friend. Thank God for my grandma. She was my rock. I miss her so much.

See I don’t think she DID have a good childhood relationship because healthy family dynamics don’t become THIS TOXIC out of nowhere. I think she’s blocking out bad memories and focusing on the good ones because I believe her mother would have always insisted “I’m a good mother you’re lucky to have me” - and children believe their parents unconditionally it’s a survival thing. And also our brains do this thing where we block out data that challenges our core beliefs, to prevent the discomfort of cognitive dissonance. So, I think she’s remembering her childhood as better than it was so as not to subconsciously challenge an INCORRECT core belief her mother programmed her with.

This is the pain of having a parent with a personality disorder. You hang on to the relationship because you still believe in the fantasy of how you want them to be, how you long them to be. They'll never change, particularly with the paranoid type. I hope this lovely girl went no contact, for her own sanity.

As soon as someone says that everyone else is lying, you know thats not true. Over the 20 years with my ex-wife, she always had someone else to blame for her drinking and abusive behaviour. She blamed her parents, her siblings, her friends, her managers, her coworkers, me, and our sons. Never once did she accept any blame for her actions.

This mother is so unbelievably toxic. I'm amazed that the daughter has grown up to be so kind hearted, level headed and loving despite all of this. I think she should run in the other direction. That doesn't mean she doesn't love her mom...sometimes you have to love people from a distance because when you try to love them up close, you get hurt.

Dr. Phil is so smart. I learn so much from him just by watching his shows. He’s literally listening to people and finding out what’s truly wrong. Then he describes it all out to where people understand it better. I just respect this man.

Drama drama and as far as this story is concerned I can relate but I was over 2000 miles away and a far as my daughter's father my daughter knows why I could not be around him at the time and I can't control what he all did but the situation was not good with her father at all.
