They talk about our constitutional rights and free speech and all that is negated in certain places. Where's free speech on tv? And we adults watch R rated films with swear words and then in certain places we're not allowed to swear. I was rarely ever spanked as a child and time outs worked for me, but I wasn't a terrible child as it was. shy, mild mannered, etc. and when I say time outs, I mean having to stand in a corner of the kitchen, facing the wall, to think about what I had done and why I was put there. no sitting or slouching, no crying, no asking if my time was up yet. all of those things got me another 5 minutes. Then again, I grew up in the 80's, when you did what your parents told you. it's important to let your child know that they can be and do anything, as long as they set their mind to it and practiced and studied and worked hard, not because it was just handed to you. I think its good for people to have opinions and ideals for themselves and their future, but not like this. Millennials aka Generation Y, like me, are people born between 1981 and 1997. The last generation before the new millennium. Many will be in their 40s in the next 2 years. Generation X, was born between 1964 and 1981. They were known as a very cynical generation. Baby Boomers, like Dr. Phil and my parents were born between 1945 and 1964. Baby Boomers were the most entitled generation. Back in the days when the economy was booming, the world wasn't overpopulated, people were paid a decent wage, even if they worked for minimum wage and the big companies and banks weren't stealing from us and the government kept them in check. Hillary Clinton said in the 1960s minimum wage was $1.67/hour. That's $25.00/hour in today's money. Minimum wage isn't even $15.00/hour yet. I've heard in some states it's still less than $10.00/hour. Ridiculous. How typical of baby boomers to say we millennials are lazy, self entitled narcissists. Most of them were in their 20s and 30s when the rich took over and the economy began to go down. We millennials have had to put up with that our entire lives. The current generation, known as Generation Z aka The Cell Phone Generation, born between 1997 and 2012 are going to have it even harder than we millennials. The economy just keeps getting worse. Got to love it how McDonalds, Walmart, GMC and the big banks are in charge now and continue to screw us over and the government doesn't do a thing about it. Next time some baby boomer tries to call us young whippersnappers lazy and self entitled, tell them must've been nice in your day, when even minimum wage was livable, there were plenty of jobs and you could get a degree without being stuck in debt and desperate.

Discipline vanished when children are unable to learn it when the law makes it impossible to raise your children to be productive citizens. My neighborhood use to have kids running and playing before I moved in and it was a nice neighborhood too. Well, whose to blame? Start with parents who refused to discipline (which means to teach; it doesn't mean to punish) their children manners or curb them in any way. Then add on teachers whose ability to teach was hampered by children whose parents REFUSED to allow them to hand out logical consequences for poor behavior (throwing tantrums; throwing books, chairs, or desks) or uncompleted classwork, homework, or projects; or failure to adhere to the rules which any good, ordered, lawful society puts in place Next on the list is the administrators of schools who were so fearful of not being promoted to executive positions in downtown offices that they wouldn't back up teacher classroom rules, not to mention DISTRICT policies in handbooks given to parents on the first day of school. Then there are the Dr. Spocks and Dr. Phils of this world, self-styled experts who told parents that curbing a child's unsociable behavior was more damaging to the precious little psyche of the child than their destructive behavior was to society as a whole. Blame Hillary Clinton and the whole "it takes a village t raise a child" mindset (that was little more than "let us, society, raise your children for you" that took responsibility for the child and his/her behavior OFF the parents and handed it over to social workers with the power to decide who was "worthy" to parent their own children. Don't forget to list politicians made the policies and laws that took individual responsibility out of the equation Finally, blame the PEOPLE who voted these twerps into office.

And I wonder why people/parents can't handle the idea of standing up to their adult child who still lives at home and/or doesn't have a job and insist they GET A job? Is it because the parent (especially if they live alone/are single or divorced) doesn't want to be alone? Or is because they're afraid of hurting their adult child's feelings by forcing them to get a job?

This is an extreme case. But, I think there’s a double standard in what messages are being sent to young people. We tell them to never give up on their dreams, yet we mock them if they are in their 30’s or 40’s pursuing their dreams.
@Borrow9192 жыл бұрын
Pay attention to the dream he's pursuing. It's not "I want to become a musician" with any acknowledgment of the work and effort that takes. It's "I want to be rich, famous and sexy" and he wants the parents to pay for it.

@angelacarleton95756 жыл бұрын
Parents don't take the time to teach discipline and boundaries - bad behavior should not be rewarded! That is correct. If this was my son, which by the way, would not happen because already taught and raised my children to be independent early on. Even they decided to have Lemonade Stand which they put together. My children were 10 and 12 and I was so proud of them. They're both upstanding citizens with college degrees, have jobs and a life. Self-Entitled kids have lack of purpose because they haven't been properly brought up to take care of themselves and be accounted for their actions.

Let's show the baby boomers, all the young people need to form an alliance and leave these old folks, they r dying anyway and using up all there money on insurance and prescription to just lay around and rot.
