I heard the very same message at Houston's First Baptist last week. Our speaker was a former Muslim who came to Christ because someone dared to befriend him instead of running away from him. Afshin Ziafat was disowned by his family after trusting Christ, but now he spends his life sharing the gospel with Muslims and encourages us to do the same.

Gospel of the Baptist’s. Not Jesus Christ. Russ sure showed what it “...means to be a baptist...” It means making a fool out of a questioner and getting all the other Nazi-baptist to cheer and shame the question. That’s not the gospel of Jesus Christ, but clearly the Gospel of the SBC.

My pastor (SBC) and I had a long discussion about this. My conclusion on this is that as an American who enjoys the civil liberties to worship in a church I agree that Muslim Americans have that same right to legally fight to worship where they want to and the community has the right to obstruct their plans legally in court. BUT as a Christian, I can not do anything that would encourage, promote or support the building of anything that points to a false god. I'm sure a similar comment to this has been made but I'm sure that on Mount Carmel the Prophet Elijah didn't offer to put up another asherah pole because the prophets of Baal had a "right" to worship the god they chose. We must remember our TRUE Citizenship is not of this world.

Russ loves his denomination and his ego. Don’t “love this man”. His response included, “...what it means to be a baptist...” Jesus didn’t live, get crucified and then cross his fingers in hopes for that fateful day in 1845 fir a group of slave owning hypocrites could create this crap organization of SBC so Russ and other ego centric leaders can spout their mouths off. Moore? I suppose he’s holding together the SBC, but is that important? Did God exist before this organization was formed in 1845? And it wasn’t formed on biblical true message, it was formed because Southerners wanted to protect Slave ownership. Not a great history. They should close them all down simply for that reason. Notice he says, “...what it means to be a baptist...” Do you think God cares? I don’t. I think all three, Father, Son and Holy Spirit think Russ is a dweeb. He’s a wannabe intellectual from Mississippi. And thus video is a perfect example of Russ’s misunderstanding of the faith. Paul never fought against the Roman Empire. The fact that $4M+ is sent to the ERLC is a tragedy. The follow up question to Russ is, with 700+ cases of sexual misconduct in the SBC, how much of your $4M+ is dedicated to improving the Ethics of your own organization?

I encourage everyone to read de Tocqueville's "Democracy in America", Book I, chapter XVII, Part III. The book is all over online. "In Europe, Christianity has been intimately united to the powers of the earth. Those powers are now in decay, and it is, as it were, buried under their ruins. The living body of religion has been bound down to the dead corpse of superannuated polity: cut but the bonds which restrain it, and that which is alive will rise once more."

@claytonsanderson3359
@claytonsanderson3359 8 жыл бұрын
You have misunderstood what Russell Moore has engaged in, and his disingenuous answer here simply does not help. Jesus and his followers did not picket the construction of temples to the emperor cult. There is no text that says that "Disciples of Christ should vehemently oppose and legally block the construction of any place of worship not directed to the one true God." However, the issue is not about SBC churches opposing Mosques. Russell Moore has aligned every SBC church that supports the ERLC through the Cooperative Program (and the IMB) on an amicus (which is a legal document where someone legally represents another person or entity) to legally construct a mosque in the Bernards Township of New Jersey. Russell Moore's answer seems pious, but no Baptist that I know of was opposing this Mosque in New Jersey from being built. Russell Moore is actually being complicit in the building of this mosque. If you really wanted to be accurate in your "obvious", yet completely missing the point point, you would say the following. "There were plenty of false religions in the world during the first century, and if Russell Moore had been leading the political arm of the Christian movement, he would have helped Caesar build his temple, because maybe encouraging someone in sin would ensure comfort for poor persecuted Christians, and who knows, maybe someone would see a Christian helping the idolatry and be impressed."

How else do you think the Gospel gets heard? If we are going to be "witnesses" we have to get close enough in loving relationship to have meaningful, respectful conversations and dialogue. "want to see Baal worship advanced" oh brother. I don't know if you know this or not, but we are not ancient Israel. And you are not Elijah. We have the great commission. Our job is to be salt and light in the world. Do your job and God will do his. The early church was surrounded by idols and paganism. Not one verse to be found that the job of the Christian was to go around tearing down the idols. But they preached, and the Spirit worked, and people turned to Christ. Do not concern yourself with mosques. Concern yourself with reaching the people in them with the love of Christ.

Government power to shut down one religion is government power to shut down them all. Do battle with Muslims based upon their false religion, not their freedom of worship. James, are you an anarchist who wants no civil governement? That would be wicked, as God appoints "Ministers of Justice" to punish evil doers. Who defines evil? 435 men or 100 men in DC? 9 men in a court room? You? Me? ... or God? You see, every law ever enforced is imposing someones religion (values, assumptions, beliefs) on someone else. Even a stop sign is forcing religious views about the value of property and life. Inescapable. Every one of the millions and millions of laws, regulations, procedures, are impositions of morality, or procedural to a moral ethical view. Imagine if I use your logic with man/boy perversion groups that are starting to make political assertions for "equality". Do you say, "Government power to shut down perverts to gather vouluntarily is government power to shut down Christians to gather. Do battle with perverts based upon their false religion (every man is equally religious and operates on his religious assumptions Romans 1), not their freedom of worship (perversion). I suppose if you don't believe in the power of Christ to change perverts, you have to block other beliefs about sex (read religious view) from having the same freedoms we do. I believe in the power of Christ, so I am not interested in using the government to shut other people up." James, If you believed in the power of Christ, you would believe the great commission's demand to disciple nations to obey God's commands. Also, if I am a Christian and a father, Elder, or Business man, by what standard do I govern my little sphere - governement? God's Law or human autonomy? What seems right? Well, if I must love my wife in the home, undershepherd the flock of God under my care, hate false balances as a business man. What do I do as a civil ruler? Enforce Stalin's ethics? Hitler's ethics? DC's ethics? Where are all the Christian law enforcement when the state is persecuting Christians, CPS is kidnapping children, men are being caged for crime, rather than making restitution? I will tell you where they are, serving as ghestapo for tyranny because while their hearst love Jesus, their minds are captive to another religion, humanism. America had no police or prisons for over 200 years. If I rob you today of a lot, I will get a slap or nothing, and you will get nothing. If I rob the state I will dos ome hard time. However, is this justice? No. Justice would require me to pay you or the state back two fold. Eye for eye. I take a $100 from you, I pay you back your hundred, and I have the same violence I intended for you done to me, so anoth $100 goes out of my pocket. Sir, some men promote the power religion of the state, other promote the escapist religion of I'll fly away or a mythical rapture will get me outa here. Then there is godly dominion; where, a man is given a sphere of responsibility and he tends and keeps it for Christ the master who will come and ask an account of our stewardship. I pray Muslims kiss the son, but I pray the Chruch finds the details off 2Chron 7:14 and understand the application of Deut 28. The chapter of the Bible that presidents once had opened when they swore their oath. God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. May you and I find repentance for any and all thoughts that are not captive to Christ. At your service, for Christ's sake.

+Michael Payne In 1789 when the Constitution was ratified with the Bill of Rights, Islam had been in existence for hundreds of years, but yet was not excluded from the protections of religious liberty. Government rightly punishes criminals for their crimes, not people who worship freely as they are allowed to do in this country. To seek to have the government oppress a people because of their religious ignores the Constitution and is, indeed, lawless. Counter the lies of Islam with the Truth of Christ and limit violence to those who actually carry out violence. What Muslims who are not actively seeking to harm us need is Christ, not discrimination.

Thing is, if Molher and others can give Calvin a break for being OK with folks being burned alive they should be able to give Confederate slave owners who were the reason some slaves were saved the same break for being men of their times. 1Atomtan Calvin never killed anyone.You Arminians have spread this lie everywhere,yet it still is not true.Reformed people understand the Bible,Calvin understood the Bible,where it teaches about God,Man,and the Gospel ,but he still got some side issues wrong,(such as baby baptism and theonomy).The truth of the matter is,Baptists used to be reformed,read the 1689 confession of faith,the Southern Baptist convention was created by reformed Baptists and it was only recently taken over by the RCC doctrine of Arminianism.So no one is TRYING to bring some NEW doctrine into the convention by reformers,they were the first,it's the Arminians who are trying to teach another gospel and it's Arminiansim that needs to be defeated.

Good example of why many people have a problem with Russell Moore. He pontificates and is condescending in his response. He doesn't have the courtesy to address the questioner directly - guess he's a backwoods Elmer Gantry type who doesn't deserve such attention from on high. I think his response is correct, by the way, mostly, but the fact he cannot give it without this superior demeanor is why he rubs people the wrong way. So, if there's division now within the SBC where he's concerned let's recognize if it didn't begin with him it was certainly exacerbated by him.

Larry Farlow Isn't this also a great example of confusing the relationship between the Gospel and personal politics, on the part of the questioner? I take your point about him being admonishing, but shouldn't sbc leadership admonish pastors who are hostile to those they should be seeking to call into faith with Christ? Jesus was extremely hostile to the Pharisees who had no compassion for those who were in need of a savior. If Moore had taken this tone against someone who asked about biblical errancy in such a hostile manner, we would all be celebrating him. Why not for admonishing this kind of question?

Mr Moore is a religious pluralist. Christians were not raped and eaten by lions, or turned into candle sticks by Nero for saying Jesus. All they had to do was acknowledge that Christianity was one of many faiths under the Lordship of Caesar, and all would have been good. But they responded to the call that Caesar is Lord with Jesus is Lord, and in that pluralistic society with the one "true' god, Caesar, atheism was the charge. Mr Moore forgets that the state is one of God's ministers. The minister of Justice, to punish evil doers. However, Mr Moore's denial of the rule of Christ over his ministers is only a reflection of Mr Moore's denial of King Jesus' right to rule. He rules anyways, but Mr Moore leads God's people to chastisement, through God's displeasure.

He neither acknowledged that Islam is the truth, nor that Christianity was under any ruler. If you mean "harmonious co-existence between adherents of different religions" then sure. Warring or persecuting others in the name of Christ doesn't tend to bring many to Christ, funnily enough.
@MrMikeyPayne
@MrMikeyPayne 8 жыл бұрын
Sir, who said a muslim's salvation is the primary goal of the Christian? That would be humanism, not Christianity. The goal of Christianity is the glory of God! This includes the proclamation to repent and believe the gospel; however, Christ also is the King or kings, Lord of lords, Governor of the Nations, and all the rulers of every government (Self, Family, Church, and Civil) must kiss the son, and obey Him. How do you attract Muslims? Well, how about Justice, judgment, and righteous conduct. They will say, what individual, family, church, and nation has such just laws. The great commission commands us to disciple nations to obey God's Law. Thus the civil magistrate, God's "Minister of Justice", has an obligation to do justice and judgment in accord with God's Law Word. Christ is not interested in a spot in Caesars pantheon along side Mars, Athena, Islam, or any other false God. The Christians only had to be pluralists 2000 years ago, like Dr Moore, and persecution would not have happened. However, when the Christians declared their is another King, one Jesus, and to your decree of Kaiser Curios (Caesar is Lord) we the followers of King Jesus say, Jesu Cristo Curios (Jesus Christ is Lord). They were rounded up as "atheists", raped and eaten by beasts, or turned into candlesticks for Nero's BBQs. Mr Moore is so scared the state might persecute us, so he defends pagan temples to pagan God's. No Dr. Moore's Christianity will never suffer persecution, because it is not biblical, it is cheerleader for the state. His ethics are not governed by His king, but by his belly. Harsh, yes. My heart breaks, but these men, ,maybe well intentioned, certainly intellectually brilliant, are not ruled by Christ, they are humanists, leading the people of God back to Egypt. The result will be death in the desert for us and our children. However, if we actually heed the instruction of God, He may yet heal our land. Bruce, please consider this: If I am a Christian, and you are a Christian, we had better be sharpening each other. I am so willing to drop every false view I hold if convinced from Scripture, and I pray you are the same. That God's Word is precious too you, and you are willing to cast false views to the dung pile where they belong. Prov 18:13. Look at the logic posited by James Hough below: "Government power to shut down one religion is government power to shut down them all." This is insanity. What you and he fail to see is that every law ever given, written, enforced, is an imposition of religion (belief). He goes on to say: " I suppose if you don't believe in the power of Christ to change people, you have to block other religions from having the same freedoms we do. " First, I do not have the right to worship my imagination, that is idolatry. Can you imagine James making Laws. We can't stop Man/Boy Love groups from their voluntary associations, because the state might step in and stop us Christians from getting together. No, you may not do perversion, even if you believe in it, we are going to impose on you, and we are still going to worship God on the Lord's day. God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. I pray you and I get grace. For that matter, I pray for God's grace on every Muslim. I have lived among them in Asia, and I have evangelized them there, and here. The real issue on the table is by what standard does the "civil government" rule. If you declare God's Law is unjust or tyranical, I would not want to be you. If you posit any alternative, you join the ranks of every other assorted ethical rebel as a covenant breaker. I am at your service, for Christ's sake.

However, Christians must choose Christian rulers - in deed not just, I love Jesus. He is saying that the Christian ruler must countenance Mosques. COEXIST is a fairy tale. Every religious system must be hostile to all other religious views or it is consumed by its adversary. It just so happens that Christianity in its hostility toward Hindu practice of killing the wife at the husbands death is a blessing to Hindu women. Christianity does not allow theft from Muslims. But Islam does the opposite. We will have laws, and they will be Christian, or they will be humanistic. You are a pluralist, so your law code will be humanistic, and it will consume Christianity, of course, you will likely accommodate yourself and persecution will not find you. Tolerance is always used by a lesser power, to gain ascendancy and become the new intolerance. Modern Christendom has been infiltrated by bad theology and escapism. This suits those in the power religion of the state. Christianity severely limits the sates powers. America did not happen in a vacuum. There are always the city of man and the city of God in conflict; however, just as cowardice was on the deck of Titanic, Christianity won the day and that is why ten men died for every women and the wealthiest man on earth died in the icy waters while a third class washer woman lived. Not so in Asia when a ferry goes down. The women are the first to die. IN America, the Puritan ethic and the capital they built is what made America blessed of God. The sins of our fathers have led us to the point where Christians are defending sodomites, and Muslim mosques in our land. My heart breaks for sexual perverts and idolaters, and I pray God will convert them or blow them away like the chaff. The modern Christian view is effeminate like a little girl with her teddy bear. Repent and read Unconditional Surrender - Gary North.

Moore isn't a religious pluralist. Anyone who reads his work will see that is false. Moore would not say that Christianity is under any lordship other than the Triune God of the Universe as revealed by the scriptures. Moore doesn't forget Romans 13, but he remembered that Paul didn't think that the Roman ruler was Christian when Paul wrote it. The wild and unsubstantiated assertions that you make have no part in civil discourse, let alone Christian charity. Love your enemies in repentance.

Moore's response was one that leads people back to the foundation of the church (Jesus). Jesus did not die and rise again for people to become Muslim, Baptist or Catholic. He died and rose again so those who believe in Him can have their sins taken away and be given eternal life. There is no Baptist or Muslim religion outlined in the New Testament. There is only those who believe and those who don't. What the gentleman from Arkansas failed to also mention is how the Baptist church also excluded Blacks, advanced the cause of slavery and segregation and many were led by preachers who also posed as Klansman when they were not conducting church services. There is no Baptist in Heaven or Hell. To label, all Muslims as the terrorist is the same as labeling all Baptist as confederate loving, cross burning, a segregationist who would rather side with laws that go against Jesus teaching than those who should be known for the love they have for their fellow man.

I agree with his principle. I believe We SHOULD be teaching Christ to them. BUT...God set up borders for a reason...and He ALSO tells us NOT to have anything to do with those who claim to be followers of God ( they call him Allah) but deny Christ...like the Muslim religion does. . I believe those who are called to bring Christ to the Muslim Nation should GO TO THE MUSLIM NATIONS and do it. But even Gods words warns us...A HOUSE DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF WILL NOT STAND....and when you allow ANTI Christian religions to flood into our MOSTLY Christian Nation....Gods principle WILL apply then as well. God does NOT contradict Himself. Like this appears to do...
