One million percent agree there needs to be some sort of certificate before having kids. My friend told me that at her practice, no one can adopt if theyeven vape. Yet anyone can breed willy nilly. I never was equipped to be a parent, neither was my mother. Unfortunately, requirements to be a parent will unlikely happen. I feel sad for the future sometimes.

I feel you...I used to work in public health and youth in underserved communities. It was disheartening when the parents were not supportive of their kids. All we can do is make a difference in our own worlds, our own communities. Focus on those children and keep that mindset geared towards the kids you can help.

My daughter recently told me she needs me to step back.. not step out but step back.. she wants me to get a hobby to keep busy and stay off of her. She wants to show me she knows what to do instead of me telling her. And I admit I need to understand she grows daily and just bc this has failed before, such as letting her moderate her wine grades once she ends up with 30+ missing assignments in computers and had to spend 4 hours a night for a solid week catching up to pass the class.. I can’t hold that against her but it feels like need to keep an eye on this so this doesn’t happen again.. she was 8th grade then…

@Dr.Shefali can this book help fix a completely ruined mother son relationship? I adopted my 8yrs right old last year and because of all the issues we have lost that little bit of relationship that we had built.
@melaniewhitney11 ай бұрын
I would definitely look into the book, she lays out things in a very practical way. You may find many tools to help you rebuild the relationship, may just take some time.

I never hear anywhere that some parents actually do not want a deep connection, they want superficial pleasant chit chat here and there and that is plenty for them. I tried for decades to have a deeper relationship with my mother and she pretends she does but really she wants me to talk once a fortnight and tell her everything is fine so she doesn't have to worry. Why is this phenomenon never discussed and every parenting video assumes parents want a deep connection? I know so many parents like that....

Dig into some psychology databases and other academic journals - you'll find the communication patterns she discusses are supported by research. Is there a specific tactic you are curious about?

Much of what she is speaking of is similar to the four agreements, and even The Tao- really ancient wisdom in general. Not so sure about the comment that teachers don't have ego present- we are all human, therefore we all have an ego. We are all on a journey of discovery. Some of us are further on the path of understanding than others, but at all times we are both a student and a teacher.
@melaniewhitney Жыл бұрын
Yes, all humans have an ego. I think she meant teacher's don't have the SAME ego attachment as a parent does with their child. Teachers are able to view the child differently because it is a different dynamic/relationship.

There is nothing new about this method. It has been taught by Christ. When he walked the earth and interacted with people he never forced anything and never guilt tripped anyone yet people wanted to be around him constantly.
