A great man! I loved all of his popular books. It's a pleasure to be listening to him after his passing. Super sharp, super insightful...always.

To solve a bet. When it's over one scientist will say to the other, "see told ya" and the other will give him a dollar.

Who is paying for this and what is the payoff

It was cancelled years ago

The society, through taxes, would be primarly paying. The highest quality science is percieved as dry by a big chunk of the society and thus tends not to recieve funding from flashy billionaries of the likes of gates, bezos and musk. The payoff is gaining further insight into the laws of physics governing the universe. It sounds worthwhile to me.

@@joaneliasmiro Especially considering that insights in physics have had dramatic benefits to the world, the wonder of transistors being given to us by quantum physics totally altering our lives.

Cancelled years ago, along with all those construction jobs and America’s leadership in Physics, which is now centered in Europe. In the meantime, we’ve wasted over 15x as much on the useless International Space Station.

The cancellation is very shortsighted !

Steven Weinberg fue un físico estadounidense. Ganó en 1979 el Premio Nobel de Física junto con Abdus Salam y Sheldon Lee Glashow por combinar el electromagnetismo y la fuerza nuclear débil en el modelo electrodébil.
