The bitter reality is that because there is mass poverty in Jamaica, the Chinese invest heavily in countries like these i.e. with a wide wealth class gap between rich and poor. Jamaica is not the only place they're doing it as well e.g. Uganda (however, Uganda has enough raw materials to economically surpass some western nations). So if a bridge needs building or any other form of infrastructure i.e. road or school, these cost millions or in the case of Jamaica billions that they may not have, so the Chinese will build it at a loan with a low interest rate and while its being built (mostly Chinese workers would be imported to do the project) Chinese citizens would be granted citizenship with a loan to open a business in said country. We can't denigrate the Chinese for contributing to the physical development of the country, the real issue lies in leadership. However, at one point Jamaica's economy was considered to be one of the best performing and even to this day surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

I have had many conversations with our Jamaican fam who don't seem to be able to see the big picture. They don't seem to understand that they are being recolonised. Similar to South Africans, who use the mantra of "Rainbow Nation", Jamaicans will say "Out of many, one people". This is all bs to me and was left by the coloniser to pacify people of African descent. This bs started to gain traction in my sphere when a Chinese woman went viral when she told the world that Jamaica has more to do with Ireland than Africa. For me, Jamaica is at the cross roads.
