6:05 - This is the sound of the Wilderness Years, wistfully imagining the 7th Doctor & Ace triumphantly returning to BBC1 in 1990.

For what would’ve been McCoy’s and Aldred’s final year(Ace would’ve left relatively early on and the planned finale of the 1990 season; Axilon would’ve been a regeneration story)
@connormacleod8042 Жыл бұрын
Indeed. It's sad to think what we missed. Each McCoy season was better than the last, and the hattrick of Ghost Light/Curse of Fenric/Survival shows the team were firing on all cylinders going into season 27. But in the long run, the Cartmel-era ideas (companions as people with real lives, the Doctor being powerful and dangerous, political and social relevance) lived on through the New Adventures and led to the 2005 series. Rose feels like a direct thematic continuation of Survival, albeit 16 years later.

This sounds exactly like my memories of the VHS tapes I watched as a little kid. No, not the "Years" tapes that this theme was used with- I was in my teens before I became a fan of Doctor Who. But this sounds like the sort of music style they always put on every "best of" collection. This may not have been part of my childhood but it really FEELS like my childhood.

I got it second hand not long after that on CD (different cover). I was also 7 in '93. What a time to be a Who fan. I'm not joking - the excitement, and glorious unpredictability, of buying VHS tapes utterly out of order and without much context - until I learned what fan wisdom had to say about said stories and realised fan wisdom was very fannish and utterly lacking in wisdom. Then, when a bit older, the '96 movie (bought on VHS in Tesco early then insisting to watch on broadcast - my mom's birthday), NAs (my earliest two - Blood Heat and All Consuming Fire), MAs (System Shock being my first) EDAs, PDAs (whilst in hospital for months bought a job lot from the nearby Forbidden Planet), and then glorious Big Finish (first was Red Dawn, on cassette, then subscribed to them all to this day). Big Finish got me, and get me, through a great many hospital stays, in all honesty. It's certainly better with the TV series around, for everyone, (though I do miss the novel range greatly), but they were still very giddy times indeed. I remember Pertwee getting a gotcha on Noel's House party, being on Surprise Surprise, and also Dimensions in Time (my first must watch Children in Need) and also Pertwee dying whilst I was in hospital again which broke my heart. What a time. Childhood crushes leave a lingering aftertaste, with little sweeter.

Had this on 12" LP since I was a hardcore kid fanatic of Dr Who back in the early 90's. Not been able to play it for years and had forgotten how good this.....seem to remember this being my favourite track. Must get a small standalone record player to play my classic Who records on. I've been looking for Myths & Other Legends by Mark Ayres, but can't damn find it anywhere on KZbin. 🤔😕

Adam Martyn's Synopsis of Dimension in Time from his Weird Who episode on the special. In a world, where the East End of London feels even more predictable then usual. The Doctor arrives in the year 1973. Err 93. 2013, oh f*** it! Third Doctor: WHAT YEAR IS THIS?! What is he doing jumping around the set of Albert Square? You'll have to find out. Starring all the remaining Doctors. The velvet one. The one who was probably forced to be there. The one who looks like he hasn't aged a day. The one who gets overlooked...Again. And the present one, who appears at the beginning and the end and was reportedly hung over for most of the filming. Seventh Doctor: JOIN ME! Alongside their companions. Ace, Mel, Susan, Sarah Jane, Nyssa, Peri, Liz, Mike Yates, Bessie, The Brigadier, Romana, Victoria, Leela and for good f***ing measure, K9. Susan: IAN! BARBERA! They're facing off against the evil Time Lady known as The Rani, her assistant Cyrian and also Cybermen, Ogrons, whatever the f*** this is, Tractators, errrr this, Fifi, a Dragon, Vervoids, Mawdryn, D-84, an Argolin, Mogarians, Sea-Devils, what I think is a Yeti, Sil 'laughs' Sil and a f***ing Time Lord. WHY?!

I still have this CD. There's some other variations that came a few years later on the net. One was more like a ballad, just the opening sequence in the old .rm realplayer format, and the other was a more aggressive version of the McCoy era theme, with a 5,2,6 beat bass line that was, instead of (and my musical notation is crap) DEEEE, DE EE, was more EEEEE EE EEEEEE. I can't find them at all now.

I remember getting hold of the CD edition in the mid 90s. There are better tracks on there, and there are worse. To be honest I wasn’t a fan of Keff McCulloch’s contributions on the show either. I find it all very ‘vanilla’. Just my opinion though.
@theemrpoint1233 жыл бұрын
Keff attacking your ears with every sound and instrument on the planet synthesized, merged into an explosion of sounds is vanilla? I would say most people find it aggressively offensive.

@@gavisinspacern1488 Yeah fan wisdom on this is, well, wrong. His score absolutely lifts both Rememberance, Delta and the Bannerman, and Silver Nemesis, even Battlefield and Time and the Rani have some fantastic moments, whilst his 7th Doctor theme is criminally underrated. As a fan I always preferred the 60's/80's music to the madness that occurred during Pertwee's era, and the ever present, often interchangeable, Dudley Simpson Tom Baker era. Give me Paddy Kingsland, Keff Mculloch, Peter Howell, Dominic Glynn or Mark Ayres any day.
