The following clips presented from this video are taken from a DVD from Germany, titled 'Mel Brook's Dracula-Tot Aber Glucklich'. The purpose of this video is for educational purposes only, by showing behind the scenes footage from the film and interviews from the lead actor and director. I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THESE CLIPS.
I had to do a research report on classic monsters and I chose to write on Bram Stoker's Dracula and Mel Brooks' Dracula, wanting to get the perspective from a serious toned film to a comedic toned film. The DVD releases for Bram Stoker's Dracula had plenty of interviews and behind the scenes footage, but all the DVDs I could find for Mel Brooks' Dracula didn't have anything. Just a commentary throughout the movie, which was great but not enough for a report. So I had to do some digging around, from going to the Margaret Herrick Library to look at unpublished stills, to contacting Warner Bros. and BrooksFilms Limited. I even got to contact one of the actresses from the film, Darla Haun, who played the brunette vampire, and she was kind enough to answer some questions. Finally, I looked online and found a German DVD of the film. I switched my laptop to read Region 2 DVDs and I was able to get the scenes I was looking for. It wasn;t much, but it was what I needed. Hopefully somewhere out these, there's more footage to be found, but I'll save that for another day. I really hope at some point that they release like an anniversary Blu Ray for this film because it is one of my favorites from Mel Brooks. And hopefully they add a ton of special features and behind the scenes clips, because the US DVDs that we have hardly contain any. (Sorry if the audio isn't in sync at some parts of the video!)
Cast as shown in video:
Leslie Nielsen - Dracula
Peter MacNicol - Renfield
Mel Brooks - Professor Van Helsing
Amy Yasbeck - Mina
Lysette Anthony - Lucy
Steven Weber - Harker
Darla Haun - Brunette Vampire
Karen Roe - Blonde Vampire
Harvey Korman - Dr. Seward

FUN LITTLE FACT: During this research I was able to get in contact with Darla Haun, the brunette vampire during the bed scene with Renfield, and she told me that the bit where the vampire brides "float" away was done with skateboards attached to a wired pulley system. There was a bit of a problem where her skateboard kept hitting something that prevented her from "floating" and she fell off a few times, until they found out it was just a pebble that kept getting in the way. The vampire brides with Renfield is one of my favorite bits from this movie and I really wish they would've added some bloopers from this scene to the DVD! For now, we can just hope for a Blu Ray release, or someone who worked on the film could post some photos.

Hye ..where is the blond vampire Karen roe right now?are she still active in acting now and She active in social media or not ??

@@mohdshahh4230 I don't know what happened to Karen Roe. She seemed to drop off the grid after her last acting gig in 'The Corporate Ladder'. I have tried looking for her on the internet and social media, but unfortunately whenever you type in her name you get pictures of a character from 'One Tree Hill', who coincidentally has the exact same name as the actress who plays the blonde vampire in this movie, so that makes it harder to find her. My guess is "Karen Roe" was a stage name and she stopped using it after she quit acting or she got married and had her last name changed. Wherever she is, I hope she is doing well. If you're interested to see what other shows she was in aside from this movie, check out these links: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKapeYGkrMxmbac kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXuQmmmtbriAfJI kzbin.info/www/bejne/nne1kp-we7Jpp8k

I always wondered how they did the floaty/glide bit. I figured something along those lines, but a skateboard? Ah well. Cheap and it worked. Its the simplest things that work best.

Nielsen and Brooks were very generous with their time. This was a fun movie to watch. Leslie Nielsen was always funny. Early in his career he could scare the liver out of you as a ruthless Bad Guy. Later, when he found his acting Funnybone, it was off the wall hilarity. Also, Peter McNichol is over the top funny as Renfield. He and Harvey Korman together are painfully funny.

I love his description of the “victimised Dracula”. Whether he was being serious or not, I don’t know, but it’s exactly how Christopher Lee described playing Dracula - you have to make him sympathetic and the horror sorts it’s self out. Two very intelligent men, comedy or Hammer!!

In 2008, I watched this movie for the very first time on TV and wanted to see it again. So, one year later, 2009, I just ordered the DVD from USA and purchased it. However, when I checked the entire content, other than the film, I felt like the audio commentaries from the DVD and the trailer were still not enough to me. As I'm just watching this stuff, I must confess these gags are awesome and I even liked the interviews, especially Leslie. He looks charismatic here. They should have included this as well on the USA editions for this film's DVD because it's great to see some behind-the-scenes exclusive material. *Cries in garlic* 😭🧄😭🧄😭🧄😭🧄😭🧄

I have been playing this movie in my house for viewing or just as background for so many, many years. My kids grew up on it and we often used references from this movie in conversations only we could understand. To me, one of the most fascinating things about the ensemble cast was that they are Americans pulling off a flawless (in the ear of us foreigners, of course) British accent. (If only Bram Stoker's Dracula's casting agents could cast actors with such a command of the British accent, that legendary film would have been 100% perfect on all accounts.)

there are two Hollywood legends here: Leslie Nielsen (actor from "Airplane" and "Naked Gun (from the files of Police Squad)" film series) and Mel Brooks (a film director, writer and producer). David Zucker wrote the screenplay for "Airplane," a classic 1980's star-studded, disaster movie spoof: think of: "Airport '77"; "The Towering Inferno (1974)" or "The Poseidon Adventure (1972).") There is a (comedy/fantasy/horror) film in 2023 called "Renfield," with Nicholas Cage, Awkwafina (rapper/actress), Nicholas Hoult; directed by: Chris McKay.)
