To get to my "flow state" I usually ask the characters what they wanna do next. As in I make them have this conversation. Character A "So, what do you wanna do next?" Character B "I don't know. Maybe..." and then the balls start rolling. It's pretty awesome. And if it takes a while it's a fun exercise in characters interactions.

oooh I love that idea! I'm going to have to try that next time!

it's hard to remember that we're just people with varying feelings day-to-day, and it's double hard not to be tough on ourselves about that! "meeting myself where i'm at" is something i've been trying to do, too--especially with writing. enjoyed your vlog!

I know -- I find it so challenging, especially with writing but we owe it to ourselves to give ourselves grace and kindness! thank you so much for watching and commenting 💖

Night time writers rise up! I get all my best writing done between 11pm and 1am, and doing it in lil writing sprints I've found is the best way to get over my writer's block! ♥

night time writing is the best and agreed on the sprints :)

I also have those feelings that there’s no conflict and things are boring. I definitely think some of that might be in our head since we already know what happens? Idk it’s hard lol

it is hard! I'm hoping that getting this draft to betas and rounds of revision will only help figure that out -- we got this! ❤

Aw Ari!! Ok so hearing about how down you felt about your draft is so relatable but knowing the livestream helped you turn it around literally makes me SO happy ! 🥹 you really did that! Also I love how you told your characters to go start some shit. I feel like I definitely need to do that too 😂 congrats on your progress so far!🤍

you're a wizard, becca! but I loved the livestream, it was so fun ❤ and try telling your characters to start some shit and then let me know how it goes 😂

Hey Ari, I’m very new to writing and I’ve never heard of a “dialogue draft”. Can you explain? In some of your clips, it looked like you may have typed a name and text beneath, is this the dialogue? I am probably the most scared of writing dialogue and it not sounding like real people but very proper robots instead.

Hi Vaneice, thanks so much for watching and commenting! ❤ That's totally fair, I also didn't really take time explain it very much in the video! So a dialogue first draft prioritizes dialogue for each scene, so I'm essentially writing the draft like a screenplay. So my draft looked like this: Character A DIALOGUE Character B DIALOGUE I find it very helpful for distilling a character's motivation and how that might influence their dialogue in specific scenes and conversations. Dialogue is very tricky and it's so hard to make it feel natural and I think it takes several rounds of editing to make it work. I also find reading my dialogue out loud helpful! I can make a video that goes into dialogue more in depth, if you think that would be helpful?

@@AriBPK yes, a dialogue draft video would be great!!
