There is a video with the new GTI on a dyno and it the results are insane. VW states 242HP and 270lb-ft of torque. The GTI to the wheels put out 247whp and 272wtq. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Golf R is actually making 315-330whp and around the same torque. The fastest recorded 0-60 on the MK8 so far is 4.0 seconds flat.

Great race! The final drive ratio of the R gives it a huge acceleration boost. As a result the A45 will have a much higher unlimited top speed but great real world speed from R.

Hmm, on his only 1/4 mile run on normal road, Mat Watson from carwow immediately achieved 12.4 seconds quarter mile, with 0-60mph in. 4.0secs. That is not far off the A45S (12.1sec), and actually just as fast as the previous 381PS A45. It’s M4 territory, well the previous M4 I mean.

Problem is we do not know if they both had premium gas--I have owned turbo cars like these and own a Mazda CX-30 Turbo right now and it is a diffrent car with premium.Bad gas does more then just cost some hP and torque--the engine and computer retarding the timing also affects how they shift and get off the line alsoMy CX-30 is new and I am sure the dealer had used regular in it and now after a few weeks and 2 tanks of gas--it is running much faster now--I would say it is capable of a mid 5 to 60 in cool weather and 93 octane.Worst car i ever drove that was affected by this was an Audi A6 I rented that had been filled up with regular--it felt as if it was down 80 HP and also lost midrange punch.I let it run out and filled it with premium and about 3 miles in could feel the diffrence when it was only on premium--it was shall I say an A6 again.

What sense does that make exactly? Are the paddle shifters not there to be used? I think the overall point is that the almighty a45s has become overpriced. I thoroughly love both cars but it’s impressive to see how well the new R goes. VW have massively understated this car and it’s just adding to the hype of it.

You don’t build a formula 1 car and then say ‘nah mate don’t bother with drs innit’ or ‘just use auto, screw the paddle shifters (yes this one is theoretical)’ or stick a V8 into a car but run it just on 4 cylinders? Or build a race car but fit it with winter road tyres on Ford Fiesta wheels? I mean you don’t do something and not use whatever you can to your potential do you. The golf is just incredibly quick, made all the better by how underwhelming and understated it seemed when first revealed. It’s a great machine, so is the a45s, it’s just amazing that a car that is, on paper, 100bhp down can run so close.

Tbf in the rolling race didn’t he say golf started in 1st and a45 in 2nd gear? So yeah golf would pull away first, then like in 2nd drag race a45 pulls from golf. First race im confused though as golf seemed to pulling back a45 at some point. Need some more channels to test this for legit results.

Every KW and NM at the wheels counts. It appears the new Haldex system is superior as being able to put every single one to use efficiently hence it requires less overall power combined with less weight and better aerodynamics.

VW has clearly an overboost function to increase torque over the certified power outcome of 320 hp at low engine and ambient temperatures. It is also explaining why the second race start is way slower. Try to do the race at actual hotter temperatures so the engines are running on its limit. Pretty sure the performance of the A45s stays the same and the golf is dropping like crazy. Maybe a nürburgring lap will do it

The VaG group take power figure and weights as worst case numbers eg. Driver full fluids, poor fuel quality, high ambient temps etc hence why Porsches, Audi's and VWs usually exceed their quoted acceleration and range numbers

Honestly I dont believe the results of this race. I think this is biased. How can 316 be that close to 415??? While the weight is not that different... Try with another A45s that car might need a service

The fact is that those golfs have much more power than on paper. That AMG is perfectly fine. It’s just matter of better gearbox in VW and real power figures close to 370HP.
