DRAG RACE!! PORSCHE 992 TURBO S vs 991 GT2 RS

We put the 2020 Porsche 992 Turbo S up against the 991 GT2 RS in a drag race! Conditions weren't ideal which should favour the 992 Turbo S which has 4WD. However the 991 GT2 RS has a power advantage and is lighter. What will happen??

We put safety above all else. The 4WD Turbo S was Peter equipped to race on the left hand side of the runway. However the whole runway was damp so it didn't make a huge difference. Was still challenging putting 691bhp down in the conditions we had.

As the driver of the Turbo S I don’t mind admitting defeat. That GT2 RS is the daddy of 911’s after all. As Mark has said, safety was paramount. Mine was lighting the tyres up in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears so to put the GT2 in the left-hand lane would have been a crazy decision.

This was a whole lot of fun!! A big thanks to Mark and his team for setting this up! Also a big thank you to the owners of the two cars for bringing them along and being such great sports! These sorts of KZbin video's take a huge amount of time / effort and money to produce... so all credit to Mark for making these events happen so we can all enjoy it! We cannot legislate for the weather in the UK - but overall - this was a great video this one!

We know results would’ve been clearer if dry but they still ran the race at least and didn’t go home. So stop talking about if the track was dry. WE KNOW. I’ve seen a few comments on here complaining that the runway was wet on my side. We turned up on the day and there had been a considerable amount of rain overnight that wasn't forecast...should we have just cancelled and wasted everyone’s time and money? Have a think about how much time and effort @888MF put in to organising this. Booking the runway. Booking the cars. Organising photographers and film crew. Editing. Taking time off work (believe it or not, running our cars up and down runways doesn’t pay the bills...) For the GT2 to win 2 out of 3 races is a testament to the car. I was at a massive advantage having 4WD but it still managed to reel me in and pass me. Yes conditions weren't ideal, and there were time constraints. Take the drag race for what it is; entertainment.

I think on proper drag strip GT2 would have bigger advantage because of better traction. 911 Turbo is AWD and GT2 RWD, here track was even little bit wet as I see.

When one lane is pretty dry and the other might as well have standing water on it, I’d say it would be a good idea to alternate lanes so that one vehicle isn’t given the advantage of not having to launch through standing water. Wonder what the results would have been if this happened 🤷‍♂️.

Wouldn’t smoke it. It would launch better, but once both get going, they are actually quite even until 130mph, where the GT2 RS starts pulling it back. The Turbo S crosses the 1/4 mile first but with a lower trap speed. After 130mph, it’s no longer neck and neck, and the RS is quicker.

Interesting race. Agree with the comments about switching the lanes though. RS's line was bone dry. I'd also think that once they got up to 150 - 160mph the Turbo would walk away as the drag from the RS's aero became a factor.

992 Turbo s have been recorded running 10.1 second quarter mile times by many different reviews. Very hard for the rear drive Gt2Rs to run that fast. Rainy wet ground is not the way to do such a race. Ridiculous.

Cool race, but I can’t help but realize that the left side of the runway seemed noticeably more wet. Every stat book says that the Turbo S should be at least a few tenths faster to the quarter, especially in equal wet conditions

Wait a minute! This ain’t fair regardless of the results. The Turbo S was driving on the side of the track which had much more water. A fair race would include switch of drivers and switch of side on track. Especially when there is such a different between the sides.

Hi Tomas. There was more water on the left side of the track, but both sides were wet and cold and lacked grip. We decided, for safety reasons, to put the 4WD car on the left.
