yes but it helps a lot to add more. The flux in the solder usually burns up too quickly for drag soldering. If trying to do it with only flux in solder then I'd recommend pin by pin.

The temp just needs to be hot enough to turn the solder into liquid... his temp settings wont help you if your iron doesnt report the proper temp or you use higher temp solder.

What temperature is your iron? I used various types of solder and even used at amtech 559 flux and I get bridges when I do a HDMI repair. Sometimes I'm able to get it but it's not consistent. I have a pinecil v2 iron as well. And I even slightly soak the tip. When I add a ton of flux and drag the tip on the pins it either doesn't drag or move or it just slightly moves but transfers the bridge over to the next set of pins.
@ecurepair
@ecurepair Жыл бұрын
The tip i was using is a fixed 393c. I have no experience with the pinecil but it sounds like temp is too low or the iron/tip is not delivering the heat well. I was using my metcal in this short, it transfers heat extremely well. I have a full video using a iron more comparable with yours that you may find helpful. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYTFgmCwgb-WpsU

@@ecurepair Yes, you’re right. the solder lead was in a bad shape and the mainboard was 30 years old. Thus makes it prone to forces. I resoldered 3 sides perfectly but screwed up the last one. Afterwards, I realigned the bent pins with tweezers and completed the soldering again. The JV-2080 sound module not worked :( I’ve seen some residual solder behind pins where I can’t reach. I thought the chip was a through hole one, but was an SMD 😔 I learned with the hard way.

Can anyone explain to me why when he drag the tip the solder doesn’t go all over the place but just stick to the connection?
@ecurepair
@ecurepair 8 ай бұрын
Solder naturally wants to form into a ball due to its surface tension. When you drag the soldering iron across the pins, the surface tension of the solder causes it to adhere to the metal surfaces it comes into contact with (pins and pads). The flux helps it keep it all wet and flowing well so that you can control the distribution of the solder better.
