Thanks for bringing another podcast @DBG. You make a good point about machinist; there's not enough coming through the pipeline to replace guys leaving the trade. Coupled with the time it takes to be set lose as an engine builder with proper machining skills, which takes a few years to develop. A lot of the youngsters don't want to put the time in with the little money apprentices make, but they have to start somewhere. Programs like this bring awareness to a need in the nation's workforce. Keep up the good work. I do think there's a decent amount of guys my age interested, but many of them are earning their living in other trades.

Lots of good points my friend. Lots involved at even entry levels. That’s when you need to dedicate yourself to learn what you can and how you can. The drive and ambition are not the same as when I was a kid. Lots changed, but the basic need for survival and independence should never change. So hopefully our work can make the difference. Glad your here my friend 🇺🇸🏁

Great FE conversation! Great to see a talented, "youthful" engine builder in the mix. And that canted-valve FE head is so cool! The competition sold these engines short for years and then would go out and get bit by one! My former drag race partner Ed Prout, won the 1971 NHRA Comp. Eliminator Division One championship running FEs. Ed had many years of FE experience. In the early days of "Small block" NHRA Pro-Stock we planned to run a de-stroked FE in our Pinto or a Maverick. This was as the sanctioning body was messing around with weight breaks, severely burdening Cleveland-powered cars. At the time, NHRA rules dictated that a "Small block" was to be from a Domestic V-8 engine series and run in a near-current body of the same make. And here's the key...The engine family had to begin life at 350 cubic inches or less and in race form could be taken to 366. Well, the FE series began life at 332 cubic inches. In 1974, I spoke with Steve Gibbs who was the Competition Director for NHRA. I asked him what would happen if we showed up at Pomona for the 1975 Winternationals with an F.E.- powered Pro-Stocker. Despite the combination being "book-legal," He said, "It wouldn't even make it to the tech line" and he would turn us away. A debate ensued. As a small, limited-resources team, we were forced to stick with the Cleveland. But that "small" FE sure would have been something! Thank you, DragBoss and Jay for also touching on other component subjects as well as Chrysler's 426 Hemi Engine.

Bill we had a great time chatting away. So impressed with Jays knowledge and results. Now he has joined DBG U and will be bringing tech for both Fe and hemis. He will also answer tech questions. The Fe has had so many configurations from generator to GT 40 and everything in between. Be cool to have a place where Fe guys can go to get guidance and parts. Steve was nice to be honest with you. Wth. Yes jay brings 13 year of hemi experience too. Lots going on at DragBoss Garage University 🇺🇸🏁
