28mm scale is 28mm from the soles of the feet to the eye level on a roughly normal-sized person... so it is super vague and not at all solid. I like how Dave's hostage claims to be looking at himself on a monitor, when we all know he is actually glancing at Tony, just out of shot, covering him with a pistol so he can't run off.

I always thought that 25, 28, 15mm etc was just the height of a person. This is, of course, immediately undermined by the fact that Space Marines are taller than a normal human.

Around 1:09:20, Dave says that he walked back into a Games Workshop and smelled that very strong scent of solventy smell of poly cement and paint and it got the hooks in him. Honestly, I relate to this hard. Having spent a number of years of my youth in a Games Workshop every weekend, walking past the store on the street and seeing the minis on display is what drew me back in - but walking into the store and having all those sense memories flood back from the distinctive smell of the place is absolutely what hooked me. There's really something to that. I do really think that GW should focus their stores less on making sales at retail and more as loss leaders for getting people into the hobby, because nothing ensnares you for LIFE like the experience of being in those stores.

The reason i model is to help with my health its great therapy , i suffer with fibromyalgia and carpal tunnel, carpal tunnel syndrome and have had to stop doing mechanics which was my main job and my hobby, i used to just build cars and brush paint them but that conflicted with my ocd as they didn't look right so i started using auto paint in cans , i came across a gundam in my local gaming shop and then started building and painting them which led me into airbrushing, I then bought a box of miniatures (tau pathfinders) as a way to practise my detail brushwork i now have a backlog with all 3 types of model, 7 cars 8 gundam, 4 boxes miniatures and kill team starter box . Im awaiting an asd/adhd assessment and the modelling is probably one of the things that has really helped with keeping myself leveled

28mm sized figures came out of the continued scale creep during the 1980s and 1990s. Fifty years ago metal wargames figures were generally made in 25mm size which was already scale creep from the Model railway/military modelling scales of 1/72 and 1/76. Those gave foot to top of head heights of 24mm. The first 25mm wargames figures were measured from foot to top of head, but the need for extra detail and ease of sculpting this led to them slowly being sculpted in 25mm foot to eye. Citadel (Games Workshop) (and increasingly others) pushed this scale creep further in the 1980's so that by the end of the decade 28mm from foot to eye(ish) had become the norm. Then during the 1990's "heroic 28's started to appear that pushed the envelope further to 30mm foot to eye and now around 32mm, I think. Confusingly there is a huge variation in the wargames figure size labelled as "28mm" and whilst humans vary in size so that part doesn't really matter it is the difference in sizes of the figures "equipment"!!! which are most noticeable. Which is a long winded way of saying NO 28mm figures are not 28mm to the M, ya numpty :D

Scale/size of models is a Pandora's box. Essentially started at HO/OO scale with Airfix and 2" for Timpo & Britain's. The XXm description arrived with Mini figs and Hinchcliffe. This describes the height of model from Foot to .... head then as figures grew eyes. It is not strictly scale but simply a size to which a scale (1/56) has been attributed, certainly for historical games. But with Heroic 28 (disproportionate hand and heads) and 32 mm the 'scale' 1/48 is a closer match. However different manufacturers define these to suit. As ever you pays your money and you makes your choice.
