"Nose. throat and accessory organs not adversely affected by smoking Chesterfields," good radio show but hearing that sad bit of history near 20:50 is worth the price of admission.

One of my favorites. It's not a silly episode, and yet it has some of the funniest and most enjoyable bits. I love the persnickity bank manager and the hapless bank guard. And I especially love the bit with the neighbor woman and her scornful appraisal of everyone involved. Jonathan Hole and Virginia Gregg are hilarious in this episode.

I like this Frank 👍🏼 Joes best partner. He adds a lot to the show. And those dang in - laws 😖

Frank's in-law stories are just as funny as Ben's in-law stories.

Jonathan Hole is "Mr. Allen", the bank president. He frequently appeared on both the radio and TV episodes as "fussy" executives of one kind or another.

If I was around back then and heard a commercial like these, it would have convinced me to quit, just from the mention of Accessory organs! I want to keep all my organs healthy!

I had a friend years ago , he visited McNeal Island for awhile . He said it was nice compared to the State pens. No fences , saved some of his lunches and fed the deer , the tame deer . Ate right out of his hand . It was not “ hard time”😎.

Ben Alexander (Frank) was Joe's best partner, and in the television version Gibson was a real sad sack, I could tell that the actor, by his voice, played many different characters on radio, Jack Webb was a very loyal guy, and used very talented artists

I agree that on radio Ben Alexander was Joe's best partner and he was comical, had so much grief, though, out of his brother-in-law Armand, LOL!!!

Love how the “medical specialists” hired by Chesterfield to give “scientific proof” of how safe their cigarettes were, gave a clean bill of health to people’s “sinuses, ears, nose and throat” after smoking them for 6 months, from 10-40 smokes a day. They just forgot to mention lungs. 😉

That "real report" on smoking, where they did a twelve month study and found "no impact on mouth and throat" was a blatant lie, but not surprising considering tobacco company advertising. Actual findings...mouth: oral inflamation, smells like old, damp cigarette butts. Throat/lungs: chronic irritation of throat, nasal sinuses, chronic cough, chronic brown tongue, taste buds affected. So Jack Webb was smoking two packs day, and had no noticable effects from smoke? Just the facts, Jack...just the truth, Jack.
