You would be wrong.....it has always been dangerous before and after women. Guys have killed in the line of duty for decades with and without partners. Tricked. Swindled. Scammed. Same old crime taking advantage of others. How unscrupulous and brazen the people who scam others. Scammers are successful because some people love the promise of easy money. Scamming has been on the rise over the years and is big business today. Some people meaning scammers have no conscience. Absolutely no shame those brazen thieves.

@michaelcolfin84643 жыл бұрын
No, if it's equivalent to $14,000 today then it has the buying power of $14,000 today. Also the drink was 75 cents, so his life saving was the equivalent of 2,000 drinks. Although the bartender said 'She likes the expensive stuff'
@Nderak3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelcolfin8464 buying power and direct inflation are two different things
@michaelcolfin84643 жыл бұрын
@@Nderak NO they are not. Inflation (as measured by the CPI) determines buying power. If inflation is 3% for a year, that means that the same money will purchase 3% less than a year ago. Thus to buy the same amount you have to earn 3% more. If $1500 is equivalent to $14,000 today, that means what you could buy for $1500 then you would have to pay $14,000 to buy an equivalent item. (I'm using your number, I didn't look up the inflation from 1955 until today) But buying power is determined by compound inflation. It's definitional. If in 1955, $1500 could buy 2000 (six-bits) drinks at a bar, then however much it cost to buy 2000 drinks now (at the relative quality the young lady was drinking, it was said she liked the expensive stuff) would be his buying power and that will be in line with inflation from that time until today. Not to say that some things inflate more than others and there are things that exist today that didn't in 1955 (and some things in 1955 that you can't buy today or would want to buy) But on average, inflation is the direct proportion of buying power from then to now. The definition of inflation is: a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money.
